Thanks Ron and steved, I will be checking out that area for any potential chafing of the wire. I am sure it is probably good, but who knows, at least I can get to it before it wears. Sleeve it up for protection and tie it out of the way.
I have the same rough idle at cold startup also. I have 07 5. 9 stock 3500. It has been intermittent for the last 10K miles and has 24K now. I called the service desk to discuss before bringing in and the first question he asked was if I was using Hess Fuel. The last two tanks were Hess. He said Cummins was working with Hess to change their formula to stop the rough idle. Besides that he said to run it hard to clear. After about 3 more tanks on non-Hess it seemed to wor better. But, now it it doing it again. It does clear up after a rev up and is ok for the rest of the day. I do work this engine as I pull a 5th wheel and we are full-time on the road. I am considering a trip to the dealer but not hoping for too much help.
Is HESS the name of the fuel station? I am wondering because I seem to only get my rough idle when I travel to certain parts of AZ. Just trying to figure it all out. I always buy diesel from high volume Flying J type places.
