I know this topic has been beaten to death but I thought I would add my two cents since my truck just got the "rough idle" bug. It started a few weeks ago and only appeared to be in the morning after the truck sat. On random occasions when starting up my truck it would run rough for about a minute or so and then clear up. Here recently its been occurring more often. Note: When this event happens my truck will also smoke (white) and run as if its running on 5 cylinders. I took my truck to the dealer yesterday and hooked it up to the computer to find zero codes however we did notice #2 injector being very weak compared to the others. So the dealer replaced the #2 injector and did a reflash of the ECM. Now for the best part... ... I am currently running the stock fuel filter (changed every other oil change) and I am also running a huge by-pass fuel filter which is rated at 2 microns. I am also running Power Service in every tank and will run Syn-Power injector cleaner every oil change. So I got to see my old injector today and you would not believe the carbon build up..... holy cow!!! Root cause is that I idle my truck more than the average bear so that is what caused my bad injector. Note: I will high-idle my truck when sitting for long periods of time but that doesnt seem to have much effect?? The dealer told me to run a injector cleaner more often and told me that Power Service is good to run for lubrication qualities however I need a stronger cleaner??? The truck is actually running better ..... so I think. Also the dealer told me the 04. 5 5. 9's and up seem to be more prone to injector issues. Where is my old 03??

Oh yeah I had to replace my steering box at 61k whats up with that????

The worst looking injector out of a 600 series motor was one where the customer always used an additive! In that case it was Lucas. Talk to Cummins they do not recommend using any additives on a regular basis. There are many examples on this board as well where the user was doing everything right (according to scuttlebut) but still had injector issues. Save your money. just drive the truck and don't baby it.

do not idle a common rail truck, its horrible on injectors, I knew you were gonna say that it was idled. By the way you won't have a injector code, the only time you will have an injector code is if there is something electrically wrong with it.

Glad you caught it early because I have seen carboned injectors stick open and wash cylinders down.
