This is my first post ever please bear with me. I had a 1999 club cab with ring removed and a K&N filter and it was sweet sounding. i just bought a 2006 2 days ago and i love it. what can i do to make more turbo whistle? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Airaid Part # AA300-928 will replace the stock baffle tube (5 min install) and give you some whistle. Want more put in a drop in a K&N replacement filter or intake upgrade all together.

I took the ring out of my 06, no difference. Maybe with another intake, but by itself, not worth the effort.

Buy a Cool Hose and an Amsoil Nano Drop in replacement filter.

This will remove the stock baffle/diffuser and allow the Turbo to be heard without removal of the ring. All the ring removal does is make an air rush noise and cause lack of throttle response due to turbulence.

The Cool hose is 129. 00 and the Amsoil Nano drop in runs about $40. 00

The Nano filter requires no oil, solvents or chemicals. It has a 100K life span, you blow it out every 25K and it filter`s better than a paper filter with less restriction. K&N is an oiled filter and is not recommended for Diesel`s. :D

My. 02 K&N only filter`s your wallet.

I never heard that before?

I tested it on both my 2003 and my new 2006.

Both suffered throttle response with increased noise. I modded the intake tube on both trucks. Tested stock and modded. Tip in throttle response suffered without the ring. Mid throttle response also lagged badly.

If you look at the Turbo without the ring, you can see why it would cause more turbulence. ;)

I don't think you can just look at the turbo and make that designation. I was under the impression as are most here on TDR that the ring only serves as a silencer.

How are you measuring lag or loss of throttle response?

I thought it was to dampen the whistle as well. I figured the turbo vanes spin air in a vortex type rotation and they are trying to break it up before the air hits the turbo to reduce the noise? Seems to me it's just more obstruction to air intake. No other aftermarket intake I'm aware of do this...

Pull the ring at take a look. :eek: Try it for yourself. :{

hmmm ...

i pulled the ring on our '03 and '06 and didn't notice any difference at all except for the sound ...

and the same for the other dozen or so that i've helped others out with ...

if it is so important then why doesn't cummins put it on their non dodge motors ...

If you want even more turbo noise and whistle, try the Eliminator pipe from Geno's Garage... ... put one on my 2003... ... the sound is great!

I removed the silencer ring from my '05 and noticed only a little difference. Then I also removed the baffles from the air hose. And Now? --- Nice!!! ;)

Did you replace the intake tube or just the filter element? The baffles that have been discussed are the ones between the two elbows, what are their purpose and how do you remove them ?

Cut the tube to 8 inches and you've replaced the stock middle section of the factory intake. Then you will have a straight through design and the tube fits perfectly. If you want it painted black, get some XIM primer and then topcoat it with the black paint of your choice.
