Doing a valve adjust on CTD is usually an easy task for me, well not today!

I just pulled my valve cover and it has a bright red sticker around the rear valve cover bolts that states.

ATTENTION: Valve Lash: . 010" INT . 026" EXH.

Yet the sticker on the side of the valve cover has the usual . 010 int . 020 exh.

The FSM also makes no mention of this . 026 spec.

I have checked a few of the exh settings and the highest value has been . 024. I'm going to go out and set them like I always do . 010 Int and . 020 Exh.

If you have any input please let me know!

Thanks for listening!

Why are you adjusting the valves on your 06 so soon. ? The factory does a pretty good job as is unless something went wrong. As for the . 026 valve lash for the exhaust valves, check with Carson Dodge as they are top flight in their work. Just my opinion here.

Rank Ram is right.

No need to check with Carson Dodge.

. 026" is spec on the exhaust valves these days.

Thanks for the reply!

To be honest, I like the . 020 spec, it makes for a quieter engine.

Is this . 026 spec for emissions or have they changed the cam?

There has to be a reason for this right?

Thanks again.

0. 026 exhaust is correct! It's because these new trucks run hotter for emissions. Here's a snapshot from a pdf file I have for the 2006 Service Manual...

My 06' also has a red sticker at the back part of the valve cover stating . 26. I checked mine yesterday. Not thinking they were set when the injectors were upgraded. I also have a white sticker near the front of the valve cover that repeats . 26 for the exhaust.

Thanks for the reply's, the funny thing is my intakes were off by . 005-. 006 and the exhaust were running tight, most were . 024-. 025. Oh well I set them all at the minimum specs and the truck idles much quieter now.

BTW the truck has 2,899 miles if anyone is interested. I do plan to do them again when the truck reaches the 10k mark, or sooner if the valve start getting noisy again.

Hey Julius the pillow worked great too! :D

the . 026 lash is due to the exhaust valves being changed to a new material. The bigger lash allows for the valves swelling under heat.

Thanks for the info, interesting to say the least.

This also makes me wonder what the lash settings will be on the 6. 7 engine?

IMHO The factory does an awful job setting valve lash, or else ours need to be reset alot sooner than 150K like they tell us. As we have all seen on the threads and from personal experience most of the valve lashes have gone to hell by 30K miles.
