This morning this situation happened for the second time.

Truck spends the nights in a 50 degree garage. Went to start it this morning. Clutch in (all the way, no floor mat under the pedal), turn key, just a few seconds of grid heater symbol- then it goes off, turn the key to start, and... NOTHING.

Have full voltage- batteries are good, connections are tight.

This happened one other time. No crank in the morning, but my wife tried it at noon and it started just fine.

I figure that I will have to call the dealer, if it is an occasional intermittant problem, they probably will not find it and I would like to know what to look at if I wake up 300 miles from home and it does this again.

Would a hand held scanner (Actron 9135) show anything if I used it when I turn the key to start?

I suspect the clutch switch, but why would it be intermittant?

HELP!! We were planning on using it for two trips on the upcoming 4 day Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanks,

John

This sounds like what another fellow went through. He took his truck to the dealer and they did a flash on it to solve the problem. I would call the dealer and get it in to them. That is the stuff warranties are for. There IS a TSB regarding the starter wiring also, it rubs or something, causes intermittence in starting, no starting, etc. You might want to check on that also.

OK, the meat wagon is on its way. Load it up and haul it away.

I am not at all confident that the dealer will find the problem if it is intermittant and it starts when they tow it there.

We'll see... .....

i believe its the clucth switch... . next time it does start pump the clutch a couple of times and rty it again..... I have found that that works on mine..... Mine hasn't done it though since i put the Sb clutch in it and the new hydraulic upgrade which involved messing with the clutch switch down below... ... Just an idea

Did you try swapping keys with the wife? Maybe the computer forgot you. Others have had problems with the yellow wire at the starter.

Thanks for the reply- that is my diagnosis also. Boy, I really tried to get that pedal to the floor quite a few times (firewall may actually be slightly dented)

Where we live the key never comes out of the ignition- the second one is taped under the vehicle as a spare.

Thanks for the input.

My truck did this once. . It turnes out the ignition switch fell apart. The contact that runs to the started solinoid broke off. . On the 04' there is a yellow wire beside the fuse panel under the hood. I used my ohmeter and discovered the voltage wasn't getting that far. For a temporary fix, I used an aligator clip wire to hit the starter right off the drivers side battery... Just turn ignition and and hit the wire, and she fires right up...

OK, you get the prize. YELLOW WIRE was the fix. Loose at the starter.

But we are up and running now. I really like this truck.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions, good call wcjp!
