truck started a louder ticking noise about 1 month after i bought it. id say it had about 3k on it. no check engine lights. since the truck is so new to me i decided to find one like it on the dealer lot and run them side by side. the noise is definatly not normal as ive checked with 3 trucks all speced the same. i thought it was an injectors noise and took it in. dealer didnt find any codes. what should i check? i dont like the idea of driving this thing and possibly causing damage that wont bite my till after warrenty  . thanks.

Can't wait to see an answer. Mine has been doing the same thing. It too started about a monthe after i bought it. I had an 05' and the tick wasnt there.

I think I read about this on this site. If I remember correctly, some were able to silence the tick with a diesel additive. They might've used Diesel Power Service.

so it a fuel system noise that needs lube? i thought i read that we werent supposed to add additive to these trucks. ima do it anyways.

I have the tick also. It started about a month or two after I bought it. I used power service and it seemed to quiet it a little but when summer rolled around I stopped using it. I've had it to the dealer for the problem and they were no help. They told me to run the living crap out of it. They said it was sooted injectors. I recently went on an 800 mile trip while towing 10K. I cleaned her out good and the engine got quiet again when I got back. Now that I'm back to normal day to day driving it's getting louder again. It's probably just one of those quarky things you'll have to deal with. I'm at 33K on the odometer now and no problems and it's not getting any louder. Sooooo, hope this helps you out.

06 ticking noise

BTighe

I read a post in the last couple of days that the ticking was some pump right before it failed. I just glanced at the post, so maybe a search will find it.

IMHO, ticking sounds aren't right no matter what. Keep trying to have the dealer find it before warranty runs out.

Byron :)

If the ticking noise is from the front of the engine and sounds like it could be gear train you might try marking the pump drive gear, take it off and rotate the pump shaft 30 degrees and reinstall the gear. It has something to do with the phasing of the three pump chambers. If they are just in the wrong spot, the drive gear can rock back and forth as the chambers pump, causing the gear to rattle. If not any better, rotate another 30 degrees and try. It is easy to do, and if your handy it is free.
