since i got my new 2006 mega cab it has started hard twice. she would crank for 10 seconds and nothing, 10 more seconds and no start. i waited a minute and it started right up. motor dosnt seem to idle as smooth as my 04. 5. i'm getting my edm injectors installed friday. i think probally i have a injector line or somthing that isnt torqued properly. what do yo guys think?... james :D

tobaccogrower search the threads out for the dual mass flywheel it seems with the new 6 speed are having some hard starts due to alingment issue,In fact I think there was a thread couple of days ago on it. Check out page 24 of the new tdr has small article on it.

I dont think you have a flywheel problem. Pretty sure you need the reflash also. Here is the info to see if it includes your truck, the TSB number is 18-003-06.

MODELS:

2006 DH/D1 Ram Truck Heavy Duty

NOTE: This bulletin applies to Ram trucks equipped with the 5. 9L Cummins 24-valve

diesel engine (sales code ETH) built on or after June 9, 2005 through and

including November 8, 2005 (MDH 0609XX and 1108XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITIONS:

The vehicle operator may experience extended engine crank time in cold ambient

temperatures on vehicle equipped with manual transmissions.

Hope that helps! :D

I believe you are thinking of a TSB for a 2005 equipped with a G56 6 speed. The bulletin was not for hard starting it was for Idle Speed Vibration or Gear Rattle in Nuetral. Didn't mean to get off topic and I could be wrong but what I could find on Diamler Chryslers Dealer Connect there is no TSB for 2005 or 2006 for a hard start because of the flywheel. 18-015-05 is the number of the TSB I am talking about. Sorry to get off topic but I just thought I would throw that out there. Later

Yes, TSB 18-015-05. I have seen trucks that this TSB has applied to and the vibration is very very noticeable. My truck has the G56 but it doesn't vibrate near as much as some trucks I have seen. From what I understand they just ran into a patch of bad flywheels, here is the info to see if it applies to your truck.

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

Excessive engine vibration or gear rattle in neutral while at idle speed at normal operating

temperatures.

Your truck was built 8/30/05 so I think TSB# 08-003-06 is your answer, it's a reflash for hard starting, there is also TSB# 18-041-05 which is a reflash for white smoke on start up. It looks like they both apply to you but if you get one flash you get them both wether you want them or not. :-laf

Where do you find the ETH sales code and the DEG code. I have an '06 2500 that experiences long cranking periodically. I have looked through my paperwork and know it is right in front of my face, just can't see it.

Thanks, Scott.

it seems like when it starts hard i dont hear the lift pump when i turn the ke on right before i crank it. is the lift pump supposed to operate every time the ignition is turned on? i'm going to have the tsb performed tomorrow... . james

The lift pump wont always kick in before you start it. Next time you start it bump start it first(engage starter but don't start it just bump it really quick) and the transfer pump should kick in, give that a shot.

Um, not sure what your asking? ETH is the sales code for 5. 9L Cummins Diesel, and DEG is for 6-Speed Manual? Im confused

I would definately take it to a shop and get the warranty to fix it and reflash your ecm before you started putting Edge or anything else on her and voiding your warranty...

My 06 starts like a champ... . so get her in the shop and then you can enlighten us to what it is.
