That's pretty cool #ad

but the solenoid looks pretty cheesy and cheap. . . has the "I'm gonna die after one winter of ice-melt getting sprayed on me" look :p

If someone wants to hear a sound file of a 3G with an Aeroturbine there is one of my truck on the bottom of this page of Diesel Power Products' site http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/exhaust2 It's not a very good quality because we were using an old video camera tied to a power cord to get a sound clip, but it gives you an idea what it sounds like

I have an 03, and I am not a very big fan of all of this pilot injection crap and trying to make a diesel sound like a gasser, that's another story. I have a 5" straight pipe exhaust system and a phat shaft 62 turbo and a bully dog power pup, and my truck sounds wicked. I have had numerous comments on how good my truck sounds. I still don't think it sounds as good as the 2nd generations, but it is pretty hard to tell the difference between the way mine sounds and the older ones ( unless your at an idle). But the p-pump conversion will take care of that! :) Any way yes my truck is loud, and yes there are some people who can't stand some noise, but like was discussed previously that is why there is a gasser motor offered in the 3/4 ton and ton trucks.

I put a 5" on my truck when it was new. It was terrible. Throughout the next year that I had it on I did a ton of stuff to quiet the drone. Outside the truck was incredible, but it was just as loud in the cab. I ditched that and am now running the stock cat/no muffler. I love the way it sounds, but I'm also getting sound help from an intake and larger turbo. Mine sounds unusaully deep though, not sure why.

I wonder if the auto keeps the rpms in a range where there is less or no drone? I could change my driving habbits to deal with the drone but got aggravated and put in a muffler. When I get my twins put on next week I'm goin to try it with 5" straight and see what happens.

I tried mine straight and thru the twins it sounded like a log truck but too loud to tow with. I added the short Donaldson 5" resonator and it's perfect now. No drone and tons of compliments on the sound.

i had a bully dog 5in with no cat on my 05 was way too loud put cat back on much better, sold 5in and got mbrp cool duals with cat almost sounds stock, will be removing cat tomorow at work to see if sounds a little louder

removed cat today at work welded two peices of 4 in together and 2 band clamps to mbrp cool duals, sounds great not too loud inside cab pretty loud outside had one of the other techs drive down road so i could hear it sounded much better

I have an 05 with a MBRP muffler. I wanted a little more sound so I was happy to find that my "Cat" ran off over the weekend. It does sound much better to me and although it has a slight drone it does not bother me.

Put the Rokktech muffler on, gets loud at 2k rpm but settles down above/below that and can't hear the thing on cruise... . spools faster mileage now at 19. 25 mpg on highway, added the 2 degree sensor also, made the truck idle a little faster although smoother and accelerates much better. only other addition is ariaid cold air system

IEdwall,

Have you towed with your truck since putting the Rokktech muffler on? I'm considering using that muffler, but want to know how it sounds in the cab while towing approx 10k lbs at 1800-2000 rpms. I've been told using the Rokktech with another muffler ahead of it will allow for no drone, but adding another muffler seems to defeat the purpose of adding a performance muffler.

Thanks,

Steve

I have an '04 with AFE Stage2 intake, no silencer ring, and Geno's muffler elimination kit. Exhaust seemed very loud at first so I switched back to stock... but stock was too quiet and civilized so I switched back to straight after 2 weeks of stock. Noise is greater in-cab and out... but I can't help it... I love it. It's a matter of preference. For me, folks can raise their voice if they need to chat in the cab otherwise just sit and listen to that CTD symphony. My niece enjoys being picked up from work in the truck. She says she can hear that lovely exhaust and whistling turbo coming down the road before I even pull in to the shopping plaza. :) I loaded a sample sound file to the following location so you can have a listen. The sound lost a little depth in the conversion and shrinkage from a video file to a sound-only wave file but have a listen anyway. FYI, this sound bite is straight-piped but with stock air intake... turbo got much louder after the Stage2 install and ring removal. :D http://members.cox.net/cg133/files/CGsRam01.wav

CGuy,

My 9month old daughter loved the sound file. Took her to the Rubicon in my 12v. I think your 3rd gen reminded her of that :)
