A good friend has a 2007 megacab dually 5.9 4x4 48re 4.10 with 235,000 miles. The original complaint was low power and poor mileage. I put brand new bosch injectors in it from tc diesel and a new oem exhaust manifold. It ran smoother and stronger for sure , but the mileage is still way down. It's getting around 200 miles to a tank which is about 6.5 mpg. This is with 285/70 tires and a small 4wheeler trailer. This truck got 16 empty and 10 heavily loaded when new and running stock tires. Other than being on the 3rd set of larger tires, it's all stock. Trans is original and seems to shift out fine. What could be causing such poor mileage? I should add that this truck has done a lot of towing...enough that the hitch is worn out and is next on the list once the mileage is back.
Should i clean the iat or map sensors? Could the torque converter be worn out and loose? (There is no noticable slip)
Give me some ideas, please. It has no codes and the fan clutch seems to work correctly. My buddy bought the truck new and has put nearly all the miles on it himself, but it's too expensive to drive these days so he's been cruising the '94 12v to the tune of 19.5 mpg.
