Well my new 3500 6 speed isn't getting the job done. I'm pulling around 13k and the clutch gets so hot there is smoke comming out everywhere.

I need a better clutch something that will take the pressure, I'm going to the dealer in the morning. I need to see if there is anything they can do to help me.

Slipping Clutch

Tinsmith3,

If a clutch is getting hot just driving in 6th gear, foot off of the pedal, it is slipping. Towing 13K sounds well within the capabilities of the 3500, but when does it slip, conditions, gear, speed, terrain, can you provide a little more info?

One of my friends is the diesel mechanic at or local Dodge dealership and he showed me a clutch problem that the 07 6. 7s are having. I don't know if the 07 5. 9s have the same clutch or not. It is a self adjusting clutch made to compensate for wear but they seem to be over adjusting and not allowing the clutch to fully engage. Dodge has a series of test for the mechanic to run to check the clutch and if it fails they replace clutch flywheel and everything. Just something to check into. I don't know if there is a TSB for it or not but it is on their star line.

i would say just upgrade the clutch now just putting it off is going to leave you in this same position again.

Southbend is the only way to go.
