I am trying to decide what to buy. I can buy an 07 slt 2500 5. 9 with very low miles for 27K OR buy an 09 6. 7 whci comes with brake and the newer 68e trans for about 35k,,,,,I am seeing all this 6. 7 emission stuff and it has me spooked so I thought if I could get some feedback from you experts it would be helpful. The 5. 9's are bringing more than book right now and I am not a guy who likes paying over retail price for anything. The 07 that I can buy for 27K only books out on Edmonds for 24K... . if you own a 5. 9 you may have gold but not forever.

I had two 07s at one time last year. One was a quad cab 5. 9 with the auto the other was a Mega cab 6. 7 auto. I still have the 5. 9. I liked the other truck better mostly the 6 speed auto. It's just a much better programed transmission The truck ran great until it sooted up then it was a never ending battle. My wife was driving it and I had to get her something more reliable. I sold it to a neighbor of mine and since hes had it they replaced the entire EGR system, the turbo and most of the exhaust system and then put heat wrap around the dowwn pipe down to the first o2 sensor after they did all that he seems to have a great truck now (wish I still had it). If your going to keep it bone stock buy the new truck, If you like to play by the 5. 9, It takes a couple grand to get a 5. 9 to perform and have an exhaust brake like a properly running 6. 7.

I've been super satisfied with my 07 5. 9. It's great with the Smarty Jr. I'm about to roll 40k and have had the truck since it was brand new. I've had ZERO problems with this truck. It runs like a champ. I do know that my cousin works for a oil rig supply company out in west tx. All their fleet trucks are the new 6. 7's. He told me firsthand that he's had problems with his due to emissions equipment, and his is not the only one. He told me there is always one of them in the shop. It's bad enough they have to have a backup vehicle ready to go all the time. I do agree with you that the ebrake and transmission are tempting, however, I am very satisfied with the 48re up to this point. I run my jr on the 100 hp setting all the time and the transmission has never given me any problems. I serviced it at 32k and the pan was as clean as a whistle. Hope this advice helps. Good luck!

This is sort of what I expected and I do like the option of HP upgrades. Also, I am not sure of all the changes for the 09's after Jan 09, but according to TDR the later 09's have some changes ie: two fuel filters if I read it correctly and who knows what else... . maybe they are trying to make the 6. 7 better.

Well I have a 08 6. 7 and LOVE IT yeah mpg suck's but right now I am pulling a load that will be close to 23,000 and so far empty it has ran sweet tomorrow morning I load the 2 crewcab's I bought and will be heading back down Hwy 93 from Elko NV so if you see a Patroit Blue truck pullin a 50 ft trailer with 2 crewcab's on it honk and wave trailer weight empty was 7500 so we wil see how it goes tomorrow . I would say by now the 6. 7 should be fixed and if you op for the auto you will love the shift on the fly

I really can't comment about the 6. 7 L since I don't currently own one.

I have been pleased with my current '07 5. 9L. It has handled everything that I have thrown at it, and even some things that this truck has no business doing, and so far so good. Unless, God forbid, that I would happen to have an accident with this one, I plan on keeping it for quite some time.

I guess I should have listed the equipment on the 2007 for 27K... It is a SLT Quad Cab, Big Horn Package 4x4 PEARL RED, with 7200 miles on it. The shift on the fly sounds like it would be great,,,but does this really get used that much? the 09 with simular equipment I am told would be approx 35-37K with the discounts. Comes down do I really need the 6speed automatic I guess.

I own a 2008 Mega cab since Nov 2007, the truck has 15 k on it now. I bought the truck new to use as a daily driver and to pull my 5er during the camping season. I have had one recall, most of have had this for the sound pad/erg issue. I have had the truck in for turbo cleaning and the turbo was drilled to clean it. I have the 68rfe auto and love the trans with the exhaust brake. I drive with the exhaust brake on all the time and use the shifting on the fly all the time. I drive the by the tac and try to keep the tac in the 1800 RPM range thus shifting on the fly.

If I had the choice between a 5. 9L and 6. 7L, I would buy the 6. 7L again this is one great truck. My son owns a Dodge 5. 9L auto 2006 Long Bed quad cab so we compare trucks all the time.

RBellah, Post where this '07 5. 9 is located.

Looks like a good deal and if you don't take it, lots of others on this site would sure give it a close look.

I have an '07 2500, 5. 9, QC and I wouldn't trade it for anything newer. The late 5. 9's
are reaching a near cult status, and for good reason in my opinion. From all indications they are less troublesome. You have more choices of fuel, in case you're taking a trip down the Baha. They get better mileage. Market prices are a fairly good indicator of value. If the 5. 9's are increasing in value and the 6. 7's are being sold for fire sale prices, that should tell you something. I would think the 5. 9 would be a better investment in the long run.

I have an 06 that I love and an 07. 5 that has had its share of problems. That being said the 6. 7 out runs the 5. 9 hands down the transmission on the 6. 7 is great the exhaust brake on the 6. 7 is great. I also have the Jake on the 06 no comparison. For out and out pulling the 6. 7 is the way to go. my opinion The fuel is an issue I have found some low sulfer diesel here in Nevada. It not good to run it in the 6. 7 I have had the 6. 7 in the shop on a few occasions for flashes etc. It seems to be running good now at 24000 miles. My 06 has 85000 Only problem was a bad battery and I cant blame that on the truck. The Inferno red metal flake looks good but the paint sucks. It has rock chips all over the body and they are white so looks like you know what. That is my main ***** with the 06. White is really forgiving. Good luck on your selection.

I have been very happy with my 07 5. 9. Its been completely reliable and has gotten better mileage than my 12 valve.

But after spending some time in my dads 08 6. 7 I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new one either.

Sorry Vic,I too goof on uploading pic's. Glenn Thomas Dodge,is the website. Stock number for the truck is #2818330,last 6 number on vin is #229475. I just checked the site the price is still the same 24,890. 00. Ask for Jim Henderson. ReBellah you are paying way to much for a truck.

I do agree with Mitch that the 6. 7s are smooth, quiet, and powerful. I tried out an 08
before I bought mine and the jake brake worked great too. I don't know if it's the
financial problems or what, but it seems Chrysler is letting the consumer do an
awful lot of their R&D. I ran across another forum on the net where 6. 7 owners were
making comments about their rides. I don't remember one that was happy with the
particulate trap. Code lights were coming on constantly. One guy was at the dealer
every 1500 miles to clean out carbon. Another guy had his turbo bored out.
I haven't seen that kind of negativity on this forum, but I think I'd wait a couple years.

TopCat I noticed they list their sale price on them too. Here in Texas times must not be as bad. They are not discounting th 09's very much yet. I may have to do some traveling!

VicR, I just checked there sit for that truck and it did not come up. I went to the 2008 2500 search and it must be gone, but you will find deals like this elsewhere if you look. I did notice they had some 4500's with service beds for 35K :)

RVTRKN, the truck is still there, but 1 person, has shown interest in it last night. So VicR you may have to act fast. I know that sounds hokey, but the fact is that truck is being discounted around 48% from sticker around a 40,000 MSRP to 28000. RBellah you or Vic are weclome to stay with us,if you need a place to stay. RVTRKN the trucks you are refering to are without beds they are quad, regcab longbeds, they are minus uplift. They are having a sale on those units as we speak, but I would rather you talk to Jim or fleet concerning the price for they are also to deep to print,or say what the final rock bottom price they would finally let them go for. This dealership is a five star, one of the top 10 in the country concerning quality of sales and service. Repeat customer's,going back almost 50 years for some family's. Dodge bends over backwards for this store. To make them happy. I have met the district rep,he is a very nice gentleman.
