Thanks, TDR Staff

Took my clutch out again today - ???

man this would be sweet for doing repowers if it wasn't so expensive

Just picked up the September issue (?) of "FOUR WHEELER" magazine and found an interesting blurb about the '07 Ford Super Duty diesel on page 14.
  1. New interior, similar to the F-150 (yuck... )
  2. Vertical headlight stack (like the new Chubby... )
  3. The grill and blue ovals will be much larger (gag... )
  4. 'Super Duty' is emblazoned across the hood (Power Wagon across the back is better... )
  5. Land Rover-style vents adorn the fenders (wtf?)
  6. and a new twin-turbo 350 / 650 - 6. 4 liter PS V8

Factory twins?! Can you imagine the plumbing nightmare under THAT hood?

i wonder if its a turbo on each bank (side) of the engine. actually taking the turbo off the top of the engine, and replacing it with two smaller side units? just a guess

heres a close up of the vents... . :-laf wow, thats retarded.

and it also says this...

Although the gasoline engine options aren't expected to change much, diesel fans will be glad to know there's an all-new Powerstroke in the works. Built by International, the new diesel V8 will displace 6. 4 liters, feature a pair of sequential turbos and generate 350 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Ford's current Powerstroke has been plagued with problems so the arrival of the new 6. 4 can't come soon enough.

I love that last line... . :-laf :-laf

will have twins to meet emmissions standard. I had a 04 6L and the underhood veiw wasnt pretty at all. cannot imagine what the twin setup will look like under there. Notice the CAMO REQUIRED on the panel, thats to hide the hideousness of that headlight setup!!!

Like the grill, dont like the new mirrors...

OBTW - in that same issue, they voted the Dodge Ram 1500 TRX4 - "Best 1/2 Ton 4x4 pickup" - AND - the Dodge Ram Power Wagon as the "Best 3/4 ton 4x4". I was pretty excited until I saw that they had voted the Fraud F-350 FX4 as the best 1-ton 4x4... now I know they must be smoking that left-handed tobacco...

I work at a ford dealer, and they said ANY work being done to the engine requires the Cab to be lifted off... Just great!!! The 6. 0L is bad enough :(

The cosmetic design team must have been on strike, and this was the result. I'm usually the first to appreciate new designs, but not on that truck!

Twin turbos are a TERRIBLE idea in consumer diesel pickups.

Ford's truck will be a 100,000 mile keeper, then should be dumped at the nearest landfill. Can you imagine the costs associated with R&Ring TWO turbos instead of one when they fail? Not to mention the added complexities associated with troubleshooting twins?

God help you if you get some kind of contamination into the inlet...

I hope Dodge doesn't go this route...

Cab removal for engine work is one reason I did NOT buy a Ford this time. Ford continues to move in the WRONG direction for those of us who want to own these vehicles after warranty is over. Increasing complexity, increasing STUPID CRAP like having to remove the cab to work on the engine, etc. It is going to bite them in the backside sooner or later. 100,000 miles should NOT be the end of life for a $35,000+ truck.

I like the truck's appearance, though... Not really as bad as some think, IMHO.

I don't know, I wouldn't be so pessimistic yet...

I looked at a new Ford LCF (Low Cab Forward) chassis cab the other day. It has a 4. 5 liter PS with twins. Both turbos sit where the single sits on the current model. It has one small standard turbo, and a big VG turbo. They're right next to each other, at an almost 90 degree angle to each other. Plumbing doesn't look bad at all.

Assuming they have the issues figured out (meaning, the switch to a common-rail setup in the new 6. 4 liter trucks) they might provide to be decent power plants.

Personally, I'll stick with the Cummins, but the PS guys hopefully won't be the laughing stock any more. I like the Ford trucks, it's just the motor that's a deal-breaker for me.

At the end of June, I was invited by a company called "Opinion Search" to rate new HD trucks. Not knowing what to expect, I went down there, and to my suprise, it was a Ford event. They had that new F-250 there, as well as the rest of the trucks, and 2 of their concepts (I remember the Super Chief, not the other one) They mentioned "premium diesel engine option" which makes me think there will be more than 1 diesel choice. I don't like at all the grill. Too much. Side vents look like an afterthought. Showed interior options, like doors, etc. They also showed a rear bed management system that was real cool, like a sliding tool box and several other things. They showed door options like a sliding van type. They also showed different cab lengths and back seat configurations. Funny thing is, the ones I liked, rear seat wise, were what Dodge currently offers.

they are compound turbos. one is a regular turbo, one is a VNT turbo. both are stuffed on top of the engine/in the engine vee. . if i can find the pdf file of the engine prerelease, i will post it. .

It looks weird as a dually, but I actually like this a lot better than the '07 GM trucks by far. I will have to see the SRW version, and as usual I hated the current SD when it was introduced in '99 but instantly warmed up to it much later.

Dodge still going with a Holset VGT for the 07?

Twin turbos seems a likely option to control emissions which change radically for the 07 diesels.

Actually the twins on the 6. 4 are to overcome power loss from the particulate filter they are installing on all make '07s to meet emission standards. That and try and compete with the LBZ Duramax for power. Be interesting to see what the new 6. 7 Cummins will be rated at when they finally introduce it...

Same here, it doesn't get much nicer than the interior of a King Ranch. Just wish they came with black leather instead of brown and dumped the IH motor all together.
