I have now about 4,000 miles on my Southbend clutch. I just want to ask others with this clutch if yours chatters some especially when cold. I now mostly do 1st gear starts. Occasionally, I start in second and it gets grabby on the start off. Is this typical? I am NOT a clutch abuser at all. I can do a smooth take off in second if I bring the RPM up to about 1200-1500.
It seems to get a little smoother when the clutch/engine warms up.
It sure holds good now!!

The OFe is a little grabby... mine's not too bad, but I was told it varies truck to truck, and driver to driver.

I have a 3250dd and notice it gets much smoother after i have gotten it hot. What I mean is after doing a burnout or doing a boosted launch for a couple of weeks the clutch will be smoother pulling out in 2nd gear. I don't know if the disks get a glaze on them and when it's burned off it's smoother? All I know is that after some hard use it engages smoother.

The 3250 DD I drove was silky smooth. The owner says it gets pretty grabby under a heavy load though. I wish SBC'd just make a DMF for the average guy with a modest hp increase(50 rwhp) but higher quality. The stock one works great until it slips. I can't even hear this transmission. It's quieter than our old Accord. I'm milking it.

Only thing I noticed on mine besides the great job it does grabbing, is under low rpm (almost lugging) and deceleration it makes a little noise - but for the performance I am getting I can deal with that. SB told me it would be noisier than stock.

Good luck on Grabby, esp in reverse. Mine in sometimes miserable. I have driven 5 and 10 ton cermic disks before without the hassles that my truck is giving. If I can can find a better system, this expensive piece of_______ is going for sale or the scrap metal trailer.

Which one are you running? A member contacted Peter last week and he's got an OFE now that doesn't produce neutral chatter.
