How much needs to be replaced in order to fit an '08 OEM filter into an '06? I know the lower cover and possibly the upper cover is different, but what about the air duct assembly?

to change the filter box takes about an hour, mainley looking for two items now that i know what i need it is a 10 minute job. the box is direct bolt on change. you have to make one small bolt on plate to cover for a port near the ait sensor. the hose connection is larger and it took a while for me to find a coupling. the easiest thing to do is to cut the piece off of the 5. 9 box and stick it inside the truck hose, this gives you strenght to the hose for a clamp. the outside diameter is the same for the hose and box so now all that is needed is to connect both with a short piece of hose. looks good. i found a joint of pipe that was the size needed so i did not have to cut up my 5. 9 box

What's the advantage of the '08 box? Genos and NAPA stock the double deep element for the '03-'07 5. 9 airbox.

Yeah. . I am pretty sure that the dealer is now ONLY selling the double deep filter for the 5. 9, and the price has come down... got mine for $14. 95 new at Lithia Dodge, and the parts guy said that the part# has been updated to reflect only the new filter.

I was originally VERY interested in upgrading the air box on my 2005 to one from a 6. 7 like other have done, but now with the new filter being so cheap, AND the PSM type mod I did to the airbox, I am not gonna worry about. I have yet to suck down the filetr minder since doing the mod and running the new filter (did them at the same time) whilst before it suck down over halfway all of the time... Here is a pic of the airbox mod... cost $20 in parts (used dust collection fittings instaed of toilet flanges). At the same time, I also resealed the airbox to the fender where it pulls air in as the stock foam was all messed up... even added 2 screws to pull the box up against the plastic fitting where it tends to warp and pull away. If you look closely you can see them on each side of the opening to the fender.
Whole project took only 2 hours to complete, including pulling the old box and epoxying the 4" fitting into it.

Not trying to talk you out of what you want to do, just showing an alternative that might work just as well or better.

I want the 6. 7 box for two reasons. 1 I have access to 6. 7 filters thru Fleetguard cheaper than I can buy the deep 5. 9 and 2 the lid is easier to open since I have a Kilby OBA. Shadrach

Wow,that's way lower than NAPA or Genos.

OK, you got me wondering just now, so I dug out my reciept. My bad... I remembered wrong... it was $19. 95 list price, no discount, for part #53034249AA at Lithia Dodge. Seems to me is more or less same price as the old style air filter
Still a damn good deal IMO... hope they DON"T figure that out and mark it up... :-laf
