1.2 miles to work, is this hard on the cummins??

I'll add my $. 02 worth... I drive about 1. 8 miles one way to the park-n-ride daily. I did this for 4 years with my GMC 6. 5TD with the only adverse effect being to fuel mileage... I'm expecting no less from my Cummins!

I think the worst thing about these short trips is that the condensation(water) that forms from the oil's repeated heating and cooling does not burn off as it does when you heat your oil to full operating temperature. Even though your coolant temperature warms up to 190 quickly, it takes alot longer longer for the oil to heat up to full temperature. I would change my oil more frequently or take the senic route.

You guys left nothing for me to add, except that, I believe in the combustion process, H2O is not one of the by products which will obviously save your exhaust system.

It seems to me that if the 1. 2 miles is really a concern then you would be driving an alternate route every other day to encrease mileage between starting and stoping. But in the meantime don't worry, you ain't going to hurt that motor if it was only 0. 2 miles. Stay on top of the maintence and enjoy the truck!!! there is more than one road from your house to work #ad
