Well my 70 is thrashed and want to know what most of you guys do in that case. Im on a budget so keep that in mind. I'm really hard on my truck and I have a lot of power.

How much do Dana 80's run and where's a good place to get them or if there's a way to beef up the Dana 70 for 600hp.

Thanks

car-parts.com is probably your best bet for finding a 80 cheaply. it's a listing of all the junk yards in the nation on the service and they usually have some good prices and a great selection especially if you don't limit it your area and are willing to pay a little for shipping

check with this place http://www.alltruckinc.com/ i got an axle from them shipped to pa for 1350 with disk brakes talk to bill there and i know they have a few 3. 55 dana 80 with disk brakes and sure he has some drum ones too for less

or also check with gary landers in AZ he is a member here and he has some good prices too his number is 602-750-4352

i have bought from both of these guys and they are both good guys to deal with and the parts cane exactly as described

BigDan, what broke? If like most, it was probably the spider gears. Unfortunately, a Dana 80 uses the same spider gears as a 70. That is an 80's weak spot also. If that was your problem, go with an aftermarket carrier, like a Detroit Locker.

If you want a cheap Dana 80, HERE'S one on eBay. Even with shipping, would be cheap. Not sold yet, (as of the time of this post).

Don't know what machining would have to be done unless there was damage to the housing.

If the spider gear only broke, they could be replaced.

If they got caught in one of the side gears, more damage could have occurred to the carrier.

Worst case is if a piece got caught in the ring and pinion, and damaged them. You could have spun a carrier bearing, which would damage the housing.

Would have to know what was damaged to require machining work, and what is being repaired or replaced.

Wow Dan, I thought i was hard on my junk! First the front, now the rear? I swapped out my 70 for an 80 when I did the gear swap. I know a guy that had a Dana 80. I'm not sure if he still has it but if you need it shoot me a pm here and on pirate.
