Competition Spur of the moment dyno

LAst night, I went to the track to see if the injectors would cut any time off my 1/4. I ran 16. 1 @ 88. 9 MPH. Can anyone give me some input about this time. Is it a good time for the mods I have (posted below)? If my truck was sitting stock w/no lift or mudders approx how much time would be cut off?

(60FT time 2. 5)

(1/8mi 10. 5)

Thanks

dpanagos,

Do you have a manual or auto trans? How were you leaving the line, in 2wd or 4wd? These two things seem to make a big difference with these trucks.

I have very similar power mods to what you have, and ran a 14. 01 @96mph, with DTT auto and launching in 4wd.

I'm not to sure what kind of difference your tires make.

Leave Harder

If you have an auto (I suspect you do not) you need to need to power brake it as hard as you dare to get the best 60' time possible. You can break stuff this way as you know.

We have guys out here that run in the 14. 1 area with a long wheelbase QC.

If you have a manual you need to work on speed shifting.

Chris,

I have an automatic trans and was in 2WD. Is the 16. 1 good considering the lift and 36" mudders? I did not spin off the line. Have you ever seen any other lifted diesels run, if so what were their times?

Thanks,

Dino:D

dpanagos, your trap speed is little low for your mods. Although you do have tall tires. The PM3 isnt as strong a box as the comp box Chris has either, especially on the low end and mid range,or spool up,although max power is about the same on both the comp gets there a lot faster. If you stack an EZ or VA,it should help a lot, epsecially if you have a standard.

Snow Man,

Are you talking about the edge comp box or tst comp box? Another question, while I am heading the strip about a 1/4 way down i notice a sigificant power increase. Would it take that long for the box to kick in ? I was planning to send my box back to TST and have it flashed to the COMP series, so that should help it . They say it will another 30 HP.

Edge Comp

Dino, I think Snowman was saying the TST product isn't as strong as the Edge "Comp". The "Comp" has timing and additional fueling at lower RPM. That's why he suggested picking up a Edge "EZ" or a VA box to pick up the difference.

Dino, how much boost are you leaving with?

You should try more boost on the launch and use 4hi. You can decrease your 60' times considerably. I'm sure your well over 2 seconds for a 60'. You need to get under 2 seconds. You should be in the 14's.

HVAC,

I am leaving with about 10lb of Boost. Should I be building it up more? Going to upgrade to the TST COMP Series, now will this give me the timing and low rpm power like the edge comp will?

Or should I just get the edge EZ and stack them? It will only cost me $50. 00 to upgrade to the TST Comp. I don't know if TST does anything for timing. Your saying I should be in the 14's, but is that possible with my mods and the 36" mudders???

thanks for the input

Let me know what you think about this.

60' Time?

What are you doing in the 60'?

You need to leave with as much boost as possible. At least 20 psi.

What ratios do you have in the diffs?

You will never get in the 14's( too tall) with those tires. The tst comp version will give you more power than the edge comp-similar to the drag comp. The tst box defuels at 3000 which slows the truck down on the 3-4 shift with a DTT trans. The trans shifts at 3100 . When you get your tst box reflashed it takes out the defueling problem and will put a smile on your face. I can't leave the line with any more than 4lbs of boost but I have 2wd long wheel base. Some of the 4x4's were lauching at 20+ lbs of boost and getting 1. 9-1. 8 60 sec times. Best I can do is 2. 1 but I just ordered two cheater slicks. Another thing to help you is a lock up switch so that your trans will shift locked up from 2-3-4. You should pick up a couple of . 1's with that too. :D

Fueling Boxes

Bill, I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with your statement regarding the performance on the TST Powermax and the Edge Comp. How much horsepower have you seen the Powermax produce on a dyno? Does the Powermax have timing capabilities?

Okay HVAC-Waynes truck is equiped just like mine except he has nos, drag comp and a lock up switch. If he turns off nos we run the same times and I don't have my lock up in yet. TST (Mark) claims dyno numbers slightly higher than the drag comp. If you've maxed out the vp44 you've maxed it out. Remember timing is good for some more mid range power not high rpm's and thats where the drag racing diesel lives.

Wayne's World

I spoke to Wayne a couple times last week. I'll ask him about the truck comparisons. I'm curious now.

Regarding Mark's claims, just got off his website. He claims 120 hp, the same as Edge claims for the Comp. However, I feel the improved midrange of the Edge product is a advantage since a stick truck or a auto like mine that stays in lock will show a considerable drop in RPM at shift points. Dropping into midrange as it were. That will get you down the track quicker ;)

" If you've maxed out the vp44 you've maxed it out"

Yeah, I guess so:confused: Haven't been able to max mine (origional oem) out yet!!!Oo. Oo.

Edge Comp

Not sure what Edge claims their "Drag Comp" will do. However, I would relate that my "Drag Comp" produces 200 horsepower on the dyno. That's was a live fire test with plenty of witnesses in attendance. Our drag strip numbers agree with our dyno results.

reflash

bill,

thanks for the input ,think ill get my tst reflashed to comp mode .

iwill try 20lbs to launch and in 4hi.

maybe this will drop 2/10's and get me in the 15's?

1/4 60'

dpanagos

my best run was:

R/T . 998

60' 1. 974

330 5. 650

1/8 8. 713

MPH 80. 78

1000 11. 356

1/4 13. 597

MPH 101.

This was 4X4 hi with 10lbs of boost. OF

Good Time

Overfueled, try coming off the line with more boost. At least go up to 15 psi. Then watch your 60' time drop a tenth and your ET even more.
