I am guessing that since most diesel drivers are over the road truckers and the fact that they always need reciepts, that somewhere along the line they started allowing truck drivers to pump their own fuel. I noticed the sign a few weeks before I got my truck. This is the only Hess station I have seen with an actual "self serve" sign. I queried some other stations and they said its OK on diesel. The catch is that I cannot pay the attendents outside who pump gas. So if I have exact change I can just throw a bill to the cashier inside and not even wait on line. What a convienence a diesel has turned out to be.

I like Hess fuel. One of the only ones that have the cetane rating on the pump... if they still do. I havent looked latley.

Hess is about $1. 75 . 9 here in Ocean county.

That looks like an older station. They dont have self serve signs here, theyre "modernizing" all the stations around here.

i have never tipped a gas jockey. why should i, i get out and open the fuel cap, he sticks it in and goes off, i usually end up topping it off, then give him the CC and sign the paper. he has done nothing to warrent a tip... now if he noticed i had a tire going down on the truck or trailer, then he/she would get something for saving me trouble roadside

I used to gas up in Phillipsburg alot. When I first started, it quickly became evident what was up when the attendents fumbled around with change. They would always stop at xx. 50 so I would watch the pump for the final tally and have the correct amount ready so they would not waste my time.

Off topic but,

since this thread has gone in this direction, I really need to throw this in. Driving out to Carlisle, PA, with my work truck Friday night, I told another driver it was clear to pull back over in front of me. A "Mehicano" accent came back to thank me then proceeded to tell me of his first day around metro Jersey, not even New York mind you. Seems this poor fellow found himself on the Garden State Parkway. Lucky for him, he managed to get off before he got pulled over.

Youre allowed to have a class 8 from exit 105 (Eatontown) south to the end on the GSP.

You sometimes see one or two north of there, but theyre never on it too long.

I've been on roads in NYC that you werent allowed on. Reason was they werent clearly posted where I got on.

Used to go in that godforsaken place almost every day. Dont miss that a bit.
