A couple of years ago my truck would all of the sudden rev up with lots of smoke then fall on its face and not even idle, never died though. Going down the interstate with the curise on and the engine reving up is kinda scarey. just at idle with no one int the truck it would rev and then barely idle. If this is what your trucks doing get it to a pump shop QUICK. The return springs on the plunger in my rotary injection pump were broken. George's Diesel in Des Moines did the work for me. He said if I didn't get it fixed as fast as I did I would have had to buy the whole plunger end of the pump. George rebuilt the pump, put some of his "special" governor springs, and run it on his test bench plus removed and installed for about $450. It has been problem free since. Hope this helps!
