anyone sell one of these to replace the stock 3" inlet 4" outlet resonator on my 2001 eth?
I would like a 4" in 4" out resonator for my 4" exhaust off the piers hx40 and i'm going to turn it up through the front right corner of the bed with a 6" single stack with a 45 deg. slant cut on top just peeking out over the top of the cab...
anyone running this setup?
what I'm seeing is that you should keep "some" sort of resonator/muffler on there to keep the dreaded 2000 rpm drone away ?
I would imagine that the rear exit will be quieter than a stack... with a stack, it's just that much closer to you. it's totally bearable with my stacks at 2000... it's at about 2300-2500 that it starts really making a racket!
now I'm starting to wonder if maybe the stacks actually cut down on the 2000rpm resonance... perhaps it has something to do with the shorter overall length and the section of flex pipe?

What I've expeirenced is that each truck is different. Being the same configuration, ex-cab, long bed, when installing my stack kits, some are mild sounding, and some(like my truck) have a wicked drone at 2200ish, without a muffler. On mine I installed a straight thru 4"x14" muffler, it's still noisey, but the drone is all but vanished.
Yes, the stacks will be louder than a straight pipe exiting out the rear, no question.
I have had 2 CTD's and they have both been stacked. My '01 had twin 4" turnouts (pics in reader's rigs). My '03 has twin 5" turnout stacks ( no pics yet). IMHO The truck just looks more balanced and symetrical with the dual stacks, I started with a single on my '01
FWIW - I like symmetry and two stacks meet that qualification. I also like stacks that just peak out over the top of the cab - like the newer big rigs. Resonance was a problem around 2100 rpm until the twins were added. Now it is only uncomfortably loud when towing uphill. I've got a few pics in reader's rigs.
