I can't believe 1 year

anyway for those who might wonder what to expect

Total miles 8/24/00 to 8/21/01 (Ok almost a year)

24,396. 4

Total fuel 1314. 5 gallons

Avg. MPG 18. 559

Best 21. 438

Worst 15. 986

I have kept records from day one ( the old pen/paper)

The good miles are running empty

The bad mile are loaded.

I very pleased with both results

I do the speed limits:rolleyes:

I thought I tell my findings

later

fuel milage

i have around 125,000 miles on my 2000 automatic 4x4. i constantly monitor my fuel milage. after around the 100,000 mile mark, my milage dropped from 19 miles per gal. to 17. 5 miles per gal. i changed to amsoil synthetic 5w-30 oil and added the power edge ez. and have not seen any improvment. the majority of my miles are highway. fuel filter is changed every 20,000 miles and tires are run at 70 psi. and i usually travel with a load around 1000 lbs.

does anyone have any suggestions?

The best I've ever gotten outa mine is 18. 5... lately the best is 15. 5... why? hellifiknow, I drive the same route everyday. Tank before last I never got over 65 mph and still averaged 15. 6. So I drive it like a rental and it's the same..... I dunno??:(

p. s. I love it, ain't gettin' rid of it ... .

My first thought is, what's your fuel pressure running?

(it's a trick question - if you don't know the answer, then the first thing you need to do is check that anyway. But some folks really do report reduced fuel mileage when the lift pump goes out. )

RCARON....

clean your IAT. It is located above and slightly behind the fuel filter/ lift pump area in the side of the intake plenum.

Might also be a good time to adjust the valves (@ 125,000)

These figures are more consistent with mine and everyone I meet. It always amazed me when someone would post a 23-25

mpg figure and expect it to be credible. For some people it all goes back to -- How big was that fish?

23-25 is possible

When my truck was new, I was getting consistent 21. 5 mpg (All Freeway). After it was broken in, I can run consistent 23's if I keep it at 65 - 70 MPH. I have hit 25 twice in 2 years. I calculate every tank by hand and have a running log too. The wind must have been blowing right for the 25's. These are all very steady freeway driving with no traffic and the use of cruise control. I did not think it was possible too until I started seeing the numbers come up. The higher numbers were achieved after 10,000 miles were on the truck. The TDR mag had an article on the cummins motor 3 or 4 issues back the reference the Brake Speed Horse Power (something like that). For the 01, the numbers said the engine was most effecient at 2000 RPM. With 3:54's I run at around 2000 RPM's to get these MPG figures.

:{ man you guys are lucky. on my 00 3500 4x4 quad the best I have ever gotten on highway was 17. 6 and my usual mpg is 14. 5. This winter it has dropped down to 13. 6. yes I just had a new lift pump put on due to low fuel pressure. No change. I realize that out of all the trucks owned on this page I own the biggest gas guzzler of them all. so maybe I should just up the hp and at least have an excuse:(

Ive been at both ends of the spectrum. Personal best 26 mpg. Personal worst. High 11s. Both with a 1500# load. Who knew. The 26 was acheived by doing 50 mph for about 500 miles. Decreased wind resistance= major improvement. The 11 was rectified when I changed power boxes. Shucks I went from 260hp to 350 and my mileage went up 4 mpg. At the same time I replaced my IAT and MAP. I get 16 pretty consistently. I cant keep my foot out of the throttle for the life of me. I towed a car for 400 miles at about 80mph and got 17. I never really understand this truck. That day it ran better than it had in years. I guess it loved the cool mountain air.

I checked my today 17. 459, last tank avg. Yesterday I ran three trucks (one over 100 mph) :) Hyw, light, empty. The smoke pored on. The F350 SD Powerchokes with injectors and flip chips are wimps.

Best tank I ever got was 24. 6 mpg. This was running empty on flat ground at about 50mph in OD, stock truck, following my dads Toyota pickup. On average I get 18 with a good mix of in town and freeway driving. The first tank I ran through after installing the 2's and the UFM was 19. 5mpg but since then I've been able to get consistant 15mpg tanks because of winter fuel and the fact that I've been playing too much. :DOo.

Here the relative humidity can change a lot from day to day, and that has more of an effect on mileage and power than you would think. Cool and dry=more pwer and mileage, BUT cool and humid it gets bad. You should see it at 3500' elevation, 101 degrees, and high humidity. Black Smoke!!!
