Personally, I think its another way for the states, especially Calif, to add to the coffers.

I have had a Class B CDL because of where I used to work since 74 and have towed several different trailers with my SB 2500 and havent been pulled over.

Yet.

When I first got the truck, I was sent some paperwork from DMV asking if I was going to use it commercially.

I round filed them.

I think Ill see if I can get copies of them and file just to CMA.

Bholm, where in MN did ya use to live? I was just in CO a couple weeks ago, wish I was still there! :D

I had a question, I am a self employed carpenter, and I do use my truck for work, and rarely haul anything outside whats in my bed, but I do from time to time pull my dads 2-axle enclosed 24' trailer. Am I looking for trouble by doing this? When I pull it, its delivering cabinets to a job to install them, so i would say it would sometimes come close to 10k+ lbs depending on how many cabinets we stuff in the trailer. I havent been stopped or bugged about it, but ya never know. I just have a SWB 2500, so maybe that is why I get left alone???

I think no matter what state you are in, the future holds that we will all have to conform to the DOT laws. Every state is in the process of changing to a standardied set of reguations, corss the board, with the FED DOT as their guidelines. Chains are rattling here in New Mexico about ALL trucks - light, med, and heavy having tryck/commercial weight class plates. Coffers? Probably. None the less, we will all have to comply. It looks like a class B license for 3/4-1 tons and med card regardless, plus the fire ext, first aid, reflectors, etc to be legal some day soon. Time to study up and get the license. Go get the physical and all the junk. Wouldn't it be a big suprise to the weight and measure people if we all just had what it takes and they could not ticket us? Food for thought. I know that right now in NM I am legal. I am planning a trip to Minn next summer for a wedding, taking my truck, hauling a trailer, and WILL have it all in order. Besides, the license could come in handy, and a physical every 2 years is probably a good idea anyway.

I have not heard any rumours aboot 3/4 tons. ???

I am sure that there are plenty of other +10K trucks from Indiana on here - hard to believe no-one has piped in yet?

...

In Michigan you need GVW plates for trucks that are used commercially and have a GVW over 8,000lbs. So this means empty (meaning you do not need to haul a trailer) 3/4 trucks used commercially are supposed to have GVW plates, not to mention all the other BS associated with having a commercial vehicle.
