I see on some 2005 window stickers for the 2500 a 11. 5 rear axle listed.

I thought that axle was for the 3500's?

Is this an option to order the bigger axle?

I think it might be an HO thing now. used to be all manual trans got the 11. 5 and the autos got the 10. 5 in the 2500 and the 3500 got 11. 5 all around. might be dodge saying its cheaper to put the big axle in all of them.

My '04 305/555 auto 2500 had the 11. 5 rear. In fact every cummins equipped truck I have seen on the lots since '03 (granted I have nowhere near seen them all) has the 11. 5 axle whether 2500 or 3500 srw or drw.

I guess you have not seen my truck! My '03 2500 Auto 4x4 has the 10. 5 rear! :{

SO... bingo. I've only seen 1 SO truck in FL and it was a dually with the 11. 5.

;) And I did say I haven't been under EVERY truck :D

I see, My 03 SO has the 10. 5.

I was just curious though because "some" 05 2500 window stickers specify an 11. 5 and others don't, yet they are all the 610 motor.

Maybe they are all 11. 5 now and some window stickers just don't mention it.

Yes, I printed a bunch for comparison and have 3 on my desk- 2005 CTD model 2500 4x4's that don't specify the 11. 5, 4 others have it specified.

Not that it matters I suppose cuz my 10. 5 seems to hold up just fine.

Even a salesman was miffed by it and was thinking 11. 5's got 4. 10's but wasn't sure on that.

As I understand it, the 2500 CTD trucks equipped with the 6 speed HD transmission get the 11 inch rear axle, auto 2500 CTD trucks get the 10. 5 rear axle, and all 3500 CTD trucks get the 11 inch.

In early production of 3gs 10. 5 was used. After they rab awhile it changed to 2500/3500 period with diesel got 11. 5. Had friends with early 03 not late 02 production date trucks with 48res etc a 2500 and 3500 same 11. 5 rear end.

Since this post I bought a 2500 with auto and got the 11. 5, my 03 2500 auto had the 10. 5

I noticed the axle tube diameter is 3 and 5/8" on the 10. 5 and 4" on the 11. 5

I was going to start a thread about this topic, I could have sworn yesterday while messing around "Building and Pricing" that saw 10. 5" on the 2500 and 11. 5" on the 3500's. Must be the screen was dorked up from still showing the Hemi as the base motor...

You guys with the 10. 5" rears could put in the Power Wagon 4. 56's and never have to drop out of O/D under most any circumstance... :-laf

so since some of the 2500 and 3500 have the same axle, does this mean all we have to do is add an extra leaf to make it a 3500? Im just trying to weight apples to apples because this is the only way I know the difference between the two.

3500 = thicker axle and extra leaf! Dually's in some cases, but not this one of course.

I wish I would have known this before I bought my airbags I would have bought just the extra leafs! Anyways I guess some were lucky.
