How Big Was Goliath?

What odd things have you seen drivers do ... and get away with?

Just browsing throught the September Car&Driver (pg 44) and came across this outrageous Lingenfelter AWD Sonoma with a 700HP 427 twin turbo from the Corvette C5R race car. 0-60 was 2. 8 seconds. Only $137K :--)

I think all the new 1100 and 1200cc sportbikes will meet or beat that time with a very good rider and cost only about 8% of that truck. My old 1982 GS1100E would do 0-60 in 4 sec. flat. Was the fastest at that time, but now days the 600cc bikes will match or maybe even beat it.

Best I could pull down om my ZX9R (Bone Stock with exhaust) was a 1020 1/4 (gotta practice drag racing for the "Launch" on the starting grid for roadracing) and my friend on his GSXR 1000 (again Bone stock with exhaust) pulls down 980's consistantly but that is a violent ride in itself being the bike is so frontlight to beginwith. It's just waaay different when in something AWD the G's feel 2wice as hard.

Funny you should ask!

I wonder how long the transmission's gonna last in onea those?

I just finished reading the article and they admitted that the truck made it through the 1/4 mile runs, but the transmission bit the dust at the start of the road course. Looks like they've got some work to do before it hits the showrooms ;)

So that was what John had out there

Lingenfelter rents Muncie Dragway during the week and tests vehicles. I often see him and his engineers out there testing vehicles. Lot's of sub 10 vettes, some camaros and once I saw a Sonoma out there, they wre just unloading it.

Could be the next Cyclone/Typhoon. I dont know why GM ditched all the cool turbos like the GN, GNX, Syclone, Typhoon and the Turbo T/A. If i had to guess it would be warranty issues with turbos. Very cool cars though.
