Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 10 liters of oil in 60 miles

Have a 2002 HO cummins with less than 200k. Engine blows out 10 liters of oil out the vent tube in 60 miles or less. Oil pressure is sky high. Pressure regulator should let oil get to 65psi max(cummins spec). Mechanical guage plumbed in read over 90psi. Replaced the regulator spring and plunger. Now the oil pressure is over 100 psi @ 2250 rpm. Has anyone heard of this before? Everyone I talk to has NEVER heard of a cummins with high oil pressure. This encludes mechanics at the local chrysler dealer and diesel shops. Help!

Dude, you gotta mean 10 MilliLiters, you can't possibly have 5, 2liter soda bottle strapped to the front! Do you have manual gauge? Our 96 at work has 100psi (on a mechanical gauge) when started in the morning, but the idiot gauge in the dash says 40psi. When it warms up alittle the (mechanicall) gauge drops to 60psi and the indash still reads about 40psi. The idiot gauge is not very accurate! I have a 2001 and my oil press acts the same as the 96. the 96 has 325k on it, and still going strong! it don't have a catch bottle but the blow-by tube That goes to the ground, smokes a good bit! Keep track of the oil level on the dipstck, maybe the injector pump seal is leaking fuel into the oil. I wouldn't be alarmed with the oil press. Is that 100 psi hot?

where is your gage tied into?



if your running it on top of the oil filter then 90 cold and 70 hot is normal



thats what i see with my set-up



10 L of oil is a lot ... . they only hold 12 liters

Thanks for the info about oil pressure on your work and personel trucks. To answer your questions; I am building 100 psi hot @ 2250 rpm with a mechanical guage plumbed into the 1/8 pipe port next to the turbo oil feed and I AM blowing oil out the vent tube( I have no bottle). After driving 20 minutes on my last highway trip the "bell" from dash went of and oil gauge was at zero. Shut engine off, coasted to a stop and pulled the dipstick to find NO oil on it. Put in 6 liters of oil to get it between the lines.

thats what i was thinking... or atleast somthing major! if it was a piston it would smoke like a train!..... with alot of oil in the boiler
