I just put in a 10 plate, stock setting, stock AFC location and it has less power than the stock plate with the plate and AFC forward. Smoke is now less also. Is it essential to have the AFC full forward on the 10 plate and can the plate safely be slid forward as well?

Thanks

You will need to slide the AFC housing all of the way forward, or you won't make much difference in power.

Unless you have an upgraded clutch, and enough turbo to keep the EGTs down, leave the plate in stock position.

You do have a pyrometer, right? If not, get one pronto. You'll regret it if you don't. Don't want to melt a piston.

No, No pyro yet. That was why I was being conservative on the AFC. I know, I know, I will get gauges, but I am not towing anything for the next few months and do go easy on it. Just wondering how much difference the AFC position will make.

Thanks for the quick reply.

AFC will make a noticeable difference in your mileage. I would leave it centered or full back because I loose MPG whenever it goes forward?

Your problem sounds more like the Governor Lever not hitting the plate.

Do this:

Remove AFC housing

Turn key to ON pos. DO NOT START!

make sure fuel shutoff solenoid is in the full UP pos.

reach down at the back of the pump and slowly roll the throttle forward.

watch for the gov. arm to come up and see if it strikes the base of your plate anywhere.

If it doesn't go to www.piersdiesel.com to the tech. section and use the instructions for the Gov. Arm Adjustment. ;)

If you still have problems post 'em up and we'll help you get it figured out. ;)

Maybe, maybe not.

My lever hits where it is supposed to. Never had to touch it. However, when I slid my plate all the way forward, I forgot to double check the position of the housing. Felt no extra power at all. Checked the housing, and I had tightened it down where it was full back. Slid it back full forward, and found the power. :D

At this point, I would leave it where it is, till the gauges are in.
