I just put a #10 plate in my 96 all stock except BHAF and 4" exhaust. I notice that my boost gauge will read 38 with the hammer down. Is this ok? Is my wastegate not working? Dont think ive ever heard it. How much will the stock head gasket hold? Or is this dependent on the truck? Thanks for any help.

Bet the egt's were high also. You do not have your mileage in your sig. Replaced my gasket at 160k, but only because of the coolant leak at right front of head. Attach an open pine cone to the acc pedal, drive barefoot, and the head gasket will last a long time.

the trucks go 187000 on it was all stock when I got it. Is there a way to set the waste gate for say 30 pounds or no? and egts arnt realy that bad right now, you have to try to get them to go over 1400* for a long time, and you would run out of road way before you would get a chance.

You should've gotten a boost elbow with the plate, assuming it wasn't used or can off of E-bay. Piers has them for about $30 or so.

The headgasket can handle 38#, no problem. But the turbo is out of its efficiency range, and making hot air. 30# should be just fine.

I did get the boost elbow got the kit from tst. It said in the directions not to change the setting so i didnt. Im sure its all set right it my truck thats probably not working correct. It wasnt taken care of so well and alot of things got over looked on it. Where would I even start to trouble shoot the wastegate? thanks for the help.

Try reinstalling your original boost elbow. If this returns your boost back to the original 20 psi area, your wastegate is ok and the boost elbow is not set correctly.

The boost elbow is adjustable or at least mine is. If you are only topping out at 38#, try backing out the adjustment a turn or two. When I first installed my boost gauge, I found I was over 35# for my stock turbo. 2 full turns out, put me at 34# at WOT.

I am also hitting 39 and 40 boost with the #10tst,3GSK, 4" pipe and 16cm non wastegated exhaust housing. EGT's run 1200 and 1300 when I get on her and stay around 850 to 900 @75mph and all this with 4:10's.

I blew the last turbo and checked the solinoid that opens the wastegate and found it to be useless. I turned my compressor to 30 psi and shot air into it and it would not do a thing, membrane toast? I have another solinoid and it worked perfectly. Decided for $125 to go with the 16 cm.

Mine's doing the exact same thing. #10 plate centered, stock boost elbow, EGT's are OK, but boost will hit 38psi on a good pull.

Thats kinda what im gonna lean towards if my acutator is toasted. Will the 16 cm non wastegated houseing bring the boost down a little say 4 or 5 pounds? I could live with that.

The bearings in my stock turbo didn't like where the TST boost elbow was set at. Have no idea how much boost it was making, since I only had a 30# gauge at the time. Pegged it easy. The turbo only lasted about 5k miles after the plate went in.

No good way to answer that. Depends how old it is. From what I was told, 40 all day long, but some will hold 50, without studs. Also depends on if the truck is warmed up or not. Better chance to blow it on a cold engine.

I've had my boost up to 45 on my truck.

Yeah, (slightly less boost), you will have a bit more lag but really not noticeable with the 4:10's. It really makes for a nice ride in relax mode..... not so aggressive, but let smiley pass by... ... and BAM she will kick hard and hold on as you will definately get more hp on top end to what you have now.

Cheers Derek

Ive been hittin 48 prety often on the stock HG w/my II PS 62 (finding some wood to knock on) Pretty often no problems yet. I used to get the stock HX35 up to about 44lbs max but the egt's were through the roof and that little 'ol stocker was set to esplode I would have thought but it held.

I can easily hit 45 psi on my '96 with completely disabled wastegate, stock turbo and injectors and no cam plate. Has 202,000 miles and all original engine. The key is to warm up your engine properly before laying into it. I drive mine HARD. No coolant or head gasket problems for me. I service my trucks religously, including coolant changes.

I have Dynomite diesel do all my work. Lenny told me that 50 to 54#'s was where it could go and 55+ pounds of boost, is not a question of if, just when you blow the head. But we where talking about my 24v. Mine runs 39-40#'s when I am on it. I try to keep it up 35#'s or less, on long hills with heavy loads (25-30K GVW. lenny runs an '02 with a 12 v and 80 plus pounds. But the truck is far from) stock with 800 plus HP's
