A stock HX35 is efficient to say 34-35 psi. Turn the set screw in the boost elbow out a little at a time (1/2 turn each time) until you get max boost to about that number. The stock headgasket is fine up to the low 40's. After that, it's anybodies guess. My hybrid has been at 44psi for a couple of years now with no issues at all and before that the stock turbo was set to 35psi. If you go back to the stock elbow, watch your EGTs as I bet the needle will be wrapped around the stop pin

My stock gasket finally let a little compression through at 248k max boost of about 38 a few times for short periods. I never get on the pedal with a cold engine. Bought truck at 67k wrecked with no clue how it was treated before me but lucky for me it had not been turned up yet. I blew out just enough to bring the overflow tank from the full mark to the top and no more. Drove 1125 miles empty with no trouble, replaced gasket and installed studs. I'm back on the road again and so far so good.

Yes I read your thread about your head gasket after starting this one just to see all everone was saying. If you dont mind me asking where did you get the studs, Was it a kit or did you just get individually? Part numbers would be great too. thanks for the help.

The studs come as a kit, part number 247-4203. They are available many places but I finally got mine from Jeg's. Quite a few other places I tried were out of stock including Piers and DTT who had slightly lower prices then Jeg's and Summit Racing.

Just put my tst#10 and elbow in last week. 42psi at half throttle pulling hard 1200egts with a 14 cm quickspool.

When I get my new 60/14 hybrid. May set it at 36 psi. With some bosch 300 injectors.

the biggest thing is age and hardware 8-10 yrs old change it bottom line it will leak. hardware studs ($500) are ok be shure to get the latest tourq procdure I personaly run allen head bolts from fasenal the last set was $65. studs can be used repetedly , bolts twice. do a search to find more about my bolts. good luck

Boost #'s

If you don't want to run into headgasket trouble I would stay under 35psi I have mine set to 30. My gasket blew after a couple 35psi runs and started leaking again after fueling was decreased. Advancing the timing increases cylinder pressure as well. This contributes to headgasket failure. Maybe I'm overly careful now or just had bad luck. But if you want anything over 35psi you might as well get orings. studs, and new turbo to start with instead on ending up with the mess of oil in the antifreeze and then antifreeze in the oil like me. I would like to do that plus 6sp but funds are not available.
