Awww crap.

I never thought to ask about my plate...

Dammit!

I have a 1994 auto pump with a fresh 5 speed behind it.

Just got DDIII's and a 3K kit to pop in there.

I have a schweet Number 6 plate sitting in there right now.

Right now, my truck runs 36PSI, come on a like a train down low and can smoke like crazy if I want it to.

But I surely do NOT want to lose the bottom, I just want to be able to run it past 2200 without hitting my windshield. :--)

For those of you who use the 3K kit with the number 6... . how did you find the curve during daily driving? I LIKE my bottom end.

:( I am now confused. :(

Thanks Jim.

Dad's truck is still a stocker and he was wanting just a little more umph. I guess I will be ordering a #10. I might have to give it a run in my truck first :)

I think you will be pleased with the number six and your other mods as long as the gov. strap contacts the plate correctly.

I have run the 10, 8, 6 and 5 plates in my truck with the 3k's and the oe injectors. I like the #10 the best.

It does have slightly better "startability" as you engage the clutch from a start, traffic light etc.

The power also seems to come on more quickly.

I have noticed a slight smoke increase running through the gears. . this may be rack travel and pump settings that are on the oe high side though.

Good luck

Andy

I ran a #11 plate for the longest time in my 97(215 pump) truck. I decided that I wanted a little more. The #10 plate seemed like the logical choice because it is so tuneable and I dont have to worry about the lever adjustment. Also since I do pull a 10k 5er I wanted to be able to run the rpms up a little more on take offs, so I added the 3K GSK.

Now the motor spins real nice up to my shift point(2800 or so) and the power is there to move the load.

When I start off from a stop light or sign. . I get very littl smoke if any. . Now if the boost is low(2-4lbs) it looks like I am burning pine knots. . :D :D :D . .

So far this upgrade has been outstanding. I have pulled the trailer about 25 miles with this new setup... WOW I am impressed. We have not taken it over the coastal range of mountains yet for me to see how the EGT's will run. . but I would guess they will be a little higher than when I had the #11 plate and stock governor springs. .

I have a 4" exhaust,Scotty II,PDR HX35/14... so this should help with the higher EGT's. .

Rick

P. S. thanks goes to Piers,Harry and Blair Pine for the class and wrenching they did @ the Tulare Diesel Showdown. We did the springs by flashlight... down the throat of the pump... :--) :--) :--)

#10 went in last night

Well I got the # 10 and slapped it in last night. Considerable improvement. Very nice combo so far, with the 3K GSK. The truck (empty) seems to have gained the low end torque I lost when I installed the GSK.

Seems like I can have my cake and eat it too!.

Although the true test will be when I hook onto the 10K 5'er, and climb a pass. Hope the EGT's are tolerable:) :D :) :D

A question for those has 215 hp 5 speeds: I have a stock truck and considering a #11 or a #10. I noticed the tech notes say a stock clutch won’t hold up to a #10. Has anyone seen this to be true (or false)?

Also has anyone found noticed any lower power problems on the low end (under 2000 RPM’s) with a 10 or 11?

My engine will rev up to about 2800 RPM’s like it is (untouched).

I plan on keeping my existing clutch for as long as I can, and then looking for another plate once the ole clutch gets upgraded. I have noticed that (good) clutches are made from a materiel a tad less expensive than gold.

Hey Bud, unless you want to put an aftermarket clutch in your truck stay away from the #10 and put a #11 in the stock position.

Jim

Bud,

Mine would rev up to there but unless someone has changed the governor springs... your are defueling.

I wanted full fuel up and a little above that rpms when I tow our trailer.

Jim is right... the stock clutch will hold the #11 plate but you will slip with the #10.

But on the other hand. . I know people that will screw up a stock clutch with stock power. It all depends on how you drive your truck.

I wish that I had done this combination when I did the SBC clutch nearly 2 years ago.

Oh so many BOMB's and so little money... Now all I need to do is figure out how I can pay for a set of towing twins:eek:

plates plates plates

I'm working on a 160 pumped 95. I'm putting in a sled pulling transmission this weekend. What plate? Where do I find more info on the plates numbered lower than 5? The truck will be a driver with sled-pulling, wood hauling, and trailer towing duties. Will use 16cm housing until bigger turbo is installed.

370's and 4k GSK in the plans also.

Rharvey,

Plate is sluightly forward, maybe 1. 5 mm. That was the position of the # 6 that came out so I thought I would start there and adjust if EGT's are an issue.

I like my #6 and the GSK:p ... It wont smoke the tires but it runs good/tows good. Original clutch hanging tough... 307 HP... 21. 5 mpg hwy... 18 city... . 11-12 towing.
