I'm trying to decide to go with 8' or 10'' wheels just wondering about problems w/ front wheel bearings, or any special offset I should get w/ the 10''er's, thanks Bob

An 8" or 10" diameter wheel would be awfully small, wouldn't it? I'd think chassis parts would be dragging on the ground! ;) :D

I believe he is talking about 8" or 10" wide wheel, 16" diameter. I am curious as to what backspacing I will need with an 8 or 10 inch wheel I can put on my truck in the 16" diameter as well.

I've been running 16x10 Eagle 589's for about a year now... no problems yet (knock on wood). I just took the stock rims off and slapped on the new ones. Don't know if this is "proper procedure" or not, but it worked for me.

If you tow or have a load...

I would be careful. I am getting a new housing for my rear jeep axle right now. The increased leverage when you have a load might be an issue.

But if you don't have a camper or tow alot probably not a big deal. Also I am sure the Dana's we have are much stronger than my jeep axle... :)

Another thing I have heard about widder wheels is they change the stearing geometry.

I would go with the 16. 5 x 8". . I put 10" wide wheels on my truck with bfg 33 12. 50's and they looked STUPID!. . They stuck 4" out past the fenders. I had to eat the cost of the wheels and bought 8" wheels. Much better. Looked like a ghetto fabulous ride!

that's kinda' what I was wondering about also, without flares I'd think 10''er's would stick out too far, think I'm going w/ 8's with 285x16's, thanks Bob

AMW,

I thought you wanted 16. 5's. . my mistake. Do you not like your factory wheels? are they steel or aluminum? 285/75/16's look nice on the factory 7" wheel with 65 psi up front. . nice and strait from the tread to the bead. 8" is better, but NOT necessary. I bought 16. 5' x 8's and x 10's. finally went back to the factory wheel. If you go to Discount tire co, or anywhere. be sure to have them mount em up and check the offset before you drive off. Alot of after market wheels mount more shallow than the factory, and will stick out past the fenders even with the same width wheel. My rear quarter panels are completely sandblasted behind the tires from the oversized jobs. My travel trailer and boat also have hickey's on them from the BFG A/T's throwing up rocks. Might buy some mud flaps also. . Hope this helps. . Lee

stock ones are the chrome steel type, Dodge did pretty good w/ the aluminum ones, if i had those, I' d leave 'em on, thanks, Bob

Look at my rig in the reader rigs... It has 10X16's. I tow and have had no problems..... I have 95,000 miles on the truck now.

you can check my pics in the gallery. i have 17x8 weld wheel typhoons with a 4 5/8 backspacing. i started towing recently, no problems. i just keep the tires aired up 45lbs when towing to limit the sway from the large sidewalls.
