just turned it over. i know i need to change antifreeze. any opinions on what kind? how hard is it to do? do i have to take out the freeze plugs etc or just the petcock on the radiator? what else needs to be done? thanks!!

I'd go to Cat or Cummins and purchase some additive for the coolant system and let it go as long as you've taken care of it...

We add back the additive once every 2 years and just keep tabs on it... .

When we do change it, we add new coolant and distilled water...

Is there a test kit for our truck's coolant additive levels ? Baldwin makes one using little paper strips for my ancient 855's coolant. If not, and I've not added much water at all over 104,000 miles, how much additive should I add ? Baldwin makes different ones for different generation engines, I was told, I use the something-007 on mine ( it's a 4 digit number and I can't think of the first one ).

If you change it you need Zerex G-05 formula. You can get it at NAPA and Grainger.

Also your valves should get checked and adjusted. You got a few more miles till it's required but it's eisier to remember avery 100k.
