Traveling with TDR Writer, Sam Memmolo, last week, we discussed a whole lot of stuff. One topic we tossed around was ways to have a little more fun on the TDR website. We both agreed that the best way to generate some fun would be to give something away. So, let's give a $100 diesel fuel card away. Consider your response to the following:

“If I knew then, what I know now . . . . ” And no, we do not want to hear about your sex life or marital woes. We do want to hear about your turbo diesel exploits.

To be included in this drawing, you simply need to post your response to this question. We will put the name of all TDR Members who respond to our challenge into a hat on Sunday, March 16, and we will draw one lucky TDR Member to receive a $100 diesel fuel card.

Gentlemen (and ladies), start your posts.

Keep you eyes open for our next contest . . . .

Discovering the Fuel Tank Rollover Valve

If I knew then, what I know now I would have attached a 1/4" ID fuel safe vent hose to the rollover valve on top of the fuel tank in my 2001 CTD and connected it to the vent port on the new auxiliary fuel tank I'd just installed in the bed before testing the gravity flow transfer system.

I wouldn't have gone inside to read the Turbo Diesel Register forums during the gravity flow test with the main tank almost full! When I came back outside after about 20 minutes to check the progress of the transfer, much to my horror I was greeted to a large puddle (estimated to be 5 gallons) of expensive diesel fuel under the truck on my asphalt driveway! I quickly shut off the ball valve on the outlet of the auxiliary tank and immediately spread a 25 pound bag of oil absorbent on the spill. What a mess to clean up! A quick examination reveled the fuel was leaking from somewhere at the top of the main tank. I later discovered the leak was actually coming from the rollover vent valve which I didn't even know existed before then. The tank had filled up to the top and then flowed out that rollover valve, which apparently couldn't seal off the tank completely.

Adding the vent line to the rollover valve solved the leaking problem, but I'd sure wish I'd known about it beforehand!

I would have bought a '97 12 valve 5 speed back in 1997 when I started selling Dodge trucks. And kept it. :-laf:-laf:-laf

I would have gotten a TDR subscription years ago and used its member knowlege to sway me to get s Diesel back then!

... . traded in my truck for a 03 when my 1st. of 3 injection pumps went out. -Jason

... . joined TDR in 2001 instead of 2005 -Jason

I wouldnt have so been cheap and not got billet shafts on a new transmission.

i learned my lesson the hard and expensive way.

I would have taken the fuel cap off BEFORE using an air gun to blow the fuel back into the tank during my frame mount - lift pump retrofit.

I would have also realized what was happening after the initial blow and not tried it a second time!

I would have purchased the Air Dog before going through 5 lift pumps and 2 injection pumps. Even though they were all under warr.

I would not of purchased my 3rd set of injectors, second guessed my first turbo choice and gone through 2 Holley blacks,2 Product Engineering pumps, a Fass and now happy with my Airdog----until that craps out

I wouldn't have dumped a fortune into my '99 trying to make up for Dodge's severe engineering shortcomings which were corrected with the 3rd. gens. Steering, braking, and excess engine noise sucked on mine. I'm a happy camper with this '07. :):)

I would've fixed that U-joint that rattled so bad it cracked my first transmission's tail housing... began a long slippery slope of transmission rebuilds...

If I knew then what I do now, I would've checked the oil press. bypass valve BEFORE replacing mains and oil pump, would've put an Airdog on every past pickup I owned, same with fuel psi gauges, would've bought a 4 door instead of a single cab so I would'nt get burned trading it in. I think it's a never ending process...
