Just after logging my 1000th mile in my new truck I filled up and found my mileage was up from 15mpg to 17. 5mpg with mixed city/highway driving. I was happy to see this and hope it continues as the truck gets broke in. :)

I've got 40000+now and its still improveing. Not much but you will see as the miles go by a little improvement.

Something to think about I have not had anyone talk about directly. I improve my milage if I don't use the cruise control. Not alot but I do. I note the fuel pressure gauge is very sensitive to throttle changes. With cruise control on it is constantly changing throttle position up and down to maintain speed a lot more than I do manually. Anyway just a thought for everyone to contemplate and comment on?

I can beat the cruise control of milage everytime. I drive the same route to work each morning. I can get there faster and get 21MPG avg without the cruise. With the cruise more like 19MPG.

Wish I could say the same

Ray,

looks like you're getting pretty decent mileage with your new truck. I have not noticed an improvement in fuel mileage with my truck, which now has 1,100 miles on the odometer. This picture shows the trailer I tow; with four ATVs inside it weighs 11,100 lbs.

90% of the miles on my truck thus far have been logged while towing this trailer. I have re-fueled 6 times, typically when the fuel gauge is between 1/4 and 1/2 of a tank. All mpg ratings are calculated, and not from the overhead trip computer, which typically reads . 2 to . 3 mpg lower than the calculated number. Anyway, here's what kind of fuel mileage I'm getting with my new '02 3500 4x4, with 3. 54 gears, and the ETH/DEE package.

Tank 1: 9. 1 mpg

Tank 2: 8. 7 mpg

Tank 3: 8. 7 mpg

Tank 4: 7. 7 mpg

Tank 5: 8. 5 mpg

Tank 6: 8. 1 mpg

The 1/4 of a tank of fuel I burned around town without the trailer behind netted 14 mpg.

As you can see my fuel mileage has NOT started to increase yet. Perceived power has started to improve though. I can now maintain significantly higher speeds up the mountain grades, and there is plenty of throttle left when "cruising" at 70 to 75 mph on a flat highway with trailer in tow, which was NOT the case initially.

I will probably get slammed for this, but here goes. I think a (small) part of this "improved "fuel mileage is psychological. The "fun" factor of having a diesel that is responsive is just too irresistible for me. The longer I own my truck, the closer to "normal" I drive it. My fuel mileage is better now at 45,000, but part of that is I have quit "experimenting" quite so often.
