I have an 04. 5 with an MV5600. 1000 miles from home on my way to get a load. Trans seems to be getting louder. The fluid is plus one quart. Does anybody know how long I have before the trans goes. The truck 83,000 miles. I have 1500 miles left on this trip, 1250 with the load. Would you get the load or head home?

That is a tough call to make but I don't think I would go for the load. My transmission went on me Sunday afternoon. Sixth gear went out so I got home in fifth but I only had noise in sixth. I was told by a rebuild shop to not drive the truck any more than necessary because if it was bearings and they turned in the case it may ruin the case and than there is no core which in my situation was another $800

Sent you a PM with a phone # from the travel companion. If it isn't making noise in 5th then it's probably a problem with the countershaft as 5th should go straight through the main shaft. At a minimum I'd drive it in 5th as much as possible and talk to a shop to get their opinion as I don't know the 5600.

Limp it to Ft. Worth, TX where Standard Transmission is or, if you prefer, Blumenthals in OKC. Both are TDR advertisers and considered excellent by their customers.

I wish I had seen your OP and replied sooner. It's not too late. Pull the transmission and ship it back to them while you take a few days off at home. LTL truck shipping will probably be cheaper than motels and meals in Ft. Worth while you wait, particularly if you can do the R&R labor yourself at home.
