I have an 04. 5 with an MV5600. 1000 miles from home on my way to get a load. Trans seems to be getting louder. The fluid is plus one quart. Does anybody know how long I have before the trans goes. The truck 83,000 miles. I have 1500 miles left on this trip, 1250 with the load. Would you get the load or head home?

You don't say where you are so prehaps another member could give it a listen. I would be MOST inclined to abort the trip and get back home or to a qualified shop. Transmissions are E X P E N S I V E!! You want to avoid a catistrophic failure of the trans. $My 0. 02 (with 40 years experience)

When the clutch disc begins to fail, it can make a clicking sound that makes you feel its from the transmission..... if you have the beginning of clutch disc failure, you don't have a lot of time... .

We have several trucks with the NV5600, and have not had much problem with the transmission except for the truck we used to pull a 20K lb trailer... . what we learned was that the 6th gear was not designed for heavy pulling... this truck now has 300K miles... and is a intown truck... . no longer used for towing...

All the trucks that I've bought have the 4. 10 ratio so you really have to use 6th when you buzz down the highway with a trailer... .

If your on the west coast, we found a group of our customers in the CA, AZ, NV area with this transmission on the shelf... .

With this all said, we've started to upgrade to the 5500 and the new automatic, and love it... but it just has only 80K miles. . so the clock is still ticking...

You didn't describe the noise your NV-5600 is making or tell the members where you are.

My NV-5600 began growling after rolling off in second gear then declutching and rolling to a stop after a day of stop and start driving while pulling heavy on an LA freeway with traffic tied up by a fire in the hills. It sounded normal driving down the highway, was only noisy when I unloaded it and coasted to a stop. It sounded like a coffee can full of bolts rattling when it was noisy. I continued driving it for another three thousand miles or so before taking it to Standard in Ft. Worth with an appiontment.

Sorry, he was in Little Rock, AR when I posted this. He's heading home in 5th gear without a load. The noise is 1st to 4th and 6th gear. He believes that the pilot bearing between the input shaft and main shaft is bad. That's why when you're in 5th, 1 to 1 the noise goes away. The prices that I got for having one done in Little Rock was the same as the price of getting one from the chrysler dealership and installing it in my shop. Says he thinks it's time for a new truck, he's tired of reparing this one. We'll let you how it goes once he gets home and the trans is out.

Will I made it back 958 miles in 5th gear. I wish I would been thinking, standard trans is about 80 miles from where my load was. I would been fine with them working on it. I had some one at the house send the posting these and on 911 they where even mentioned but I didnt get the message until I was half way home. After looking at what it takes to rebuild this trans I am having second thoughts about rebuilding it here. This is going to suck if I end up pulling it out and sending it to standard trans anyways.
