I used to do oil analysis, but got too expensive so I just changed the oil instead. I have now gotten pretty inactive. Since the last oild change 14 months ago, I've only driven the truck 1000 miles. Based on my old experience with analysis the old oil would still be ok. But with the new oils I don't know. I only drive on the highway 55MPH usually to Lowes to get lumber so the engine get a full workout on my trips.

I need to go and pick up my trailer. 800 miles, 400 towing. Think i'm ok to let it ride? Any of you guys still do analysis and have a feel for it?

Chances are it will be fine. However, the lack of use is probably more of a problem than the oil. Considering your location and the fact you are not working it hard, water contamination in the oil is your biggest potential problem. The corrosive compounds and acid produced in that situation worse than running 10k under contant use.

You should change the fluids at least every year even if the mileage is low. Especially if the truck does not work hard when it is used.

I need to share another thought... Now that I'm retired I'm storing either a car, jeep or the truck for up to 5-6 months at a time based on where we're at... we store them inside but it's not a heated space... . we leave the hood up with a battery tender on them... our problem to date has been mice... so now we bate around each wheel before we leave the vehicle. . I'm tired of cleaning out the engine compartment or air filter housing... .

And yes, we only change oil once a year, when we put the vehicle into service for the season...
