this is on the project truck, right now the 92 motor and auto trans are sitting in the floor waiting for the new nv4500. but before i put the motor in my trailduster i want to do some maintenance to it. motors got 200,000 on it ran great right till i took it apart

basically i want a list of everything you all would do to the motor when its out of the truck, i am looking for all the simple stuff right now..... till its all done , then i can have some fun ... ... ... ... ... if you had the money and the motor out of your truck what would you change... ... .....

btw it is a 100%virgin motor, old mans truck one owner never tinkered with :-laf and just like all the other trucks out there it leaks a bit ... ... is there a kit with all the gaskets for it?

I'm basically doing the same thing. Got an engine out, getting ready to go in the crew. I am replacing the rear main seal, front main seal, both with wear sleeves if necessary, timing cover gasket, kdp, and piston lift pump install. Although that is not absolutely necessary. All these are much easier to do out of chassis than in. Some others are valve cover gaskets, intake cover plate gasket, grid heater gasket, adjust valves, resurface flywheel etc. Then paint- Cummins beige, give it that tractor motor look:cool:. I guess you could do the oil pan gasket if you like. I've heard it's not cheap though:(.

As far as kits, there is a upper and lower gasket set, but I'm just piecing this together.

Paint it white and give it that marine look... and get one of the "Diamond Peformance Series" decals for it. LOL

Bill pretty much covered what I would have suggested. Good luck.

thanks guys, that's what i was looking for.

is the best place to get all this stuff straight from cummins?

if so do they have an online parts catalog?

Anything else can easily be done in chassis. Keep it simple. I know you want to spend that $1k :-laf . As far as the rest of the money, once you do the simple stuff, it all depends on how much HP you want, how you want to use etc etc. Turbo upgrade, clutch or flexplate upgrade could be a part of that big money.

Sourcing parts - Do you have a Cummins dealer near by? I don't know of a Cummins online place. They do ship, but you gotta pick up that thing they call the telephone to get it.

Gasket match the intake and exhaust ports? Drill and tap for pyro. How 'bout dual pyro's... front and back, or pre and post turbo? Weld a return line port in the pan for a bypass oil filter? That stuff's all more time than money, though.

well i don't but you know how that goes, i think i am just going to do some gaskets and clean it up and paint it for now, i just bought all the transmission stuff that kinda killed the budget ... ... ..... i got to start saving for vegas in a month ... ... gonna win big

Take the front cover off and loctite the bolts and tab the KDP. As far as playing w/ the pump or anything I'd wait until you had it back in the truck and started it, no big deal to work on once its in the truck and basic pump mods are free or very inexpensive(fuel pin, 366 spring).
