Help with potential amsoil oil BP order

Changed my oil to Valvoline 5W40 extreme synthetic today as well as installed the Fleetguard Stratapore filter and a new oilguard by pass filter.

First thing I noticed is that the oil return line (while running) has really good oilflow compared to no oilflow when I was running dino oil and it was -20 so I am just awaiting the results of my oil analysis (old dino oil) for a benchmark.

Keep us posted - I'd be interested in seeing your baseline as well as the later followup with the synthetic...

I have just received the results of my oil analysis

Evaluator Comment (Sample ID: 9922101-R-5146)

ENGINE WEAR RATES NORMAL FOR BREAK-IN/OVERHAUL PERIOD.

SAMPLE APPEARS FREE OF EXTERNAL CONTAMINATION.

ANALYSIS INDICATES PROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE LUBRICANT AND UNIT.

Fluid properties:

visc-100=14. 5

soot=0. 6

Oxid=1. 5

TBN=11. 5

Spectro Results:

FE=15 NI=0 CA=0 V=0

PB=1 MN=0 BA=0 K=0

CU=4 SI=5 P=0

CR=0 B=0 ZN=0

SN=0 NA=4 MO=7

AL=2 MG=0 TI=0

That's with 5000 mile with valv blue 15-40 with mopar filter and oilguard bypass

So is this your previous oil or the 5w40??? Must be the previous oil??

Yep, I sent in the sample of the dino oil just prior to changingover to full synthetic.

one thing I didn't mention is this sample is with afe stage 2 with proguard 7 air intake.

it seems to be doing it's job because the silsicon count is at 5 ppm.

My other concern was due the cold we have been having I have been idling alot longer than normal (high idle) I was concerned about soot levels.

In conclusion stock oil/filter with oilguard is doing an adequate job of filtering and lubing. When I get back from my 3000+ mile return trip from Phoenix in May I will send the oil in to get tested again and I wll post the results.

I switched over to 15w40 PremBlue synthetic about 5000 miles ago. I'm going to run it another 1000 miles and send in a sample. I'll be able to compare it to my other samples of Mobil Delvac 15w40. Synthetic oil really shines in the cold weather, if you asked me. It flows much quicker than dino oil, and it's apparent on VERY cold startups (much easier, sounds better, pressure comes on quicker).

Valvoline Preium Blue 15w-40 is semi-synthetic. The synthetic is 5w-40 and called Extreme as per the first post. I have been using the semi for years, but when the Extreme came out, I switched all my trucks and diesel equipment to it. If you tend to keep your trucks and equipment for a very long time as I do, it is worth the extra $.

Results back from Oilguard

Approx 8000miles on extreme blue, Changed the Stratapore filter at same time as oil sample taken. you should see my baseline with the stock fluid taken in December.
