Hi All,

My truck is about to hit 100k miles. I was wondering if there is any maintenance I should consider when I hit the mark.

Thanks

Nothing special, assuming you've always done regular maintenance. You might consider a valve adjustment, although it's not strictly necessary (depending on who you ask).

Things to check will be ball joints, front u-joints and wheel bearings. I just do a PM every 100k and change them all out. This time I am going wiht the Carli ball joints so I don't have to change them again.

Since you brought it up this may be a great time to ask a couple questoins about adjusting the valves. In the old days when I drove a gasser it was pretty easy to line up the timing mark for top dead center then continue to adjust the valves. Now I dont have a manual so I have no idea how to get the compression off the motor so I can turn itto TDC and adjust the valves. May I have some guidance from the professionals please?

Thanks

You don't. There are generally two options for turning the engine over manually: the alternator pulley or an engine barring tool.

The barring tool fits the blanked hole on the passenger side of the block and engages the flywheel teeth. Very slow, but also very easy to turn.

Most people use the alternator pulley.
