I know this has been discussed before but my friends 2001. 5 died and it had to be towed to the dealership. I told him if the injection pump or lift pump failed it would be covered under the 100K mile warranty. The dealer said anything bolted to the engine is not covered. I said this is bull. Any help with this problem would be appreciated. Thanks.

The fuel system on these trucks should be covered under the 5yr/100k warranty. Accessories "bolted to the engine" such as the AC, PS pump, etc. are not covered. Either the service manager is completely inept or completely dishonest. After 36K, the only thing the dealer can charge you is a $100 deductible on any work done under the engine warranty. There was a notice sent to the dealers directing them to void the warranty on any fuel system that shows evidence of tampering (this is usually dealing with tapping the pump wire). But if this isn't the case, there should be no justification for the dealers position. I would agree and say find another dealer.

Find another dealer!

I've had the injection pump, lift pump, and cracked exhaust manifold all replaced under the powertrain warranty.

I did have to pay the deductable for the new torque converter that was replaced under the *extended* warranty.

Justin, I've never heard of the $100 deductible??? Are you sure that's not for extended warranty work? I've had my lift pump replaced twice under the powertrtain warranty. Zero Cost, Zero hassles.

I'll have to check again on that $100. I've never been charged it either. I just had a lift pump replaced at 19k, but my truck has been in service over 3 yrs. They didn't charge me anything. I had called a friend who works at a Dodge dealer for the information yesterday. He may have misunderstood my question. I'll update this post if I find out differently.

The dealer finally got it straight. I don't know if my friend talked to an idiot or what but they are replacing the lift pump under warranty. I told my friend that his injection pump could have been damaged as well so they did a test on it and they said it was ok. Time will tell. Thanks for the replys. I think my friend is finally going to install a fuel pressure gauge. A week without his truck and he now thinks a fuel pressure gauge is money well spent:rolleyes:
