2005 CTD 2WD finally approaching the 100K mile mark. I've owned since new and have done periodic routine maintenance. At 50K I preemptively replaced the water pump, serpentine belt, and tensioner and pulley.

Now at 100K I'm wondering if I should look at replacing any of these items again.

I use the truck primarily for pulling my 5th wheel trailer so any potential problem is probably going to be when I'm on the road. Not a good place to deal with them!

Any other items that I might look at replacing?

About 88k on my 2005.
I would flush the coolant system when replacing all those parts. Also, would service other fluids and adjust transmission bands depending upon how long those have been in operation.

I do plan on flushing cooling system. All fluids and transmission bands are adjusted at regular intervals. I'm just questioning if things like the tensioner/pulley and belt need to be replaced.

Things I do every 100K, brake fluid, coolant, thermostat, hoses, tensioner, gears box (6sp), diff, adjust valves. It just so happens I am at 300K now and I have been at it a week doing every thing. But thats what I do.

That's pretty much everything I have on the list. The hoses still look great but I'm carrying spares just in case. The only thing I've never done is adjust valves. That's above my skills to do. Is it pretty standard to do this at 100K miles?

I believe that's what the service manual calls for. The back 2 cylinders are the hardest to get to

Unless you are going to do high-dollar hoses (like maybe Mr Bob's), Mopar hoses are the ONLY ones that I know of worth considering. Put a hand and an eyeball on them and the "also rans" and tell me I'm wrong

Yes, adjusting the valves at 100K is standard.

If you're at all interested in trying to do this yourself I can post the procedure from the FSM. It's not a hard task.

Well, after some research I have found this, both in the Dodge Service Manual and on other websites:

"Cummins recommends adjusting the valve lash on 6BT (12v) engines every 24,000 miles or 24 months, whichever comes first. On later ISB models (24v), the valve lash is to be adjusted at significantly higher 150,000 mile intervals."

Now, there are some websites that state it is good practice to check the 24V engines at 100K. I have not noticed any strange sounds from my engine but I have noticed it seems fuel mileage has dropped a couple of mpg as per the overhead. I know the overhead computer is not reliable but I'm speaking relative to past readings.

The 6BT has a different valve train than the ISB and did have a shorter valve maintenance interval.
