you should drive up to GB during the service department hours (late in their hours) the day they are going to be completing the work on your truck and ask to see the old parts make sure the old rings are there and also them what they recomend and what you should expect from here out with the engine just my opinion!

good luck and hope all turns out great!

re: 100K, need a new block.--Update--

OK, first of all I appoligize for not being able to post up to this forum earlier than today.

I called Cummins on Tuesday morning and spoke with the SM Randy. He told me the truck was going on the Dyno at that moment and should be ready for the return trip to GLC in Milwaukee around 12 noon. I was thrilled, ahead of schedule! Wow!

I jumped in the GEOmetry rental car and flew down to GLC at 3PM saw that truck was still as clean as I had left it.

I opened the hood and stood back and stared. It was beautiful.

The engine compartment was clean, the engine had been repainted, I mean everything was painted. Looked great.

I crawled underneath the front end, and they had power washed and cleaned the entire steering rack and everything. It looked better than when I bought it new.

Wires and harness' were all back in place as if nothing had been removed.

Started it up and listened, what a beautiful sound. No smoke from the pipe, all gauges were reading normally. Took a test drive, all is right with the world again. I am a happy camper.

Cummins picked up the tab on all of the parts, no charge for the new rings, new coolant, oil and filters, etc... ... ... .

Also, on the front seat was a copy of the Dyno print out. I don't remember all of the numbers but the first one was 3000 rpm, 180HP, 240ft lbs. , I think. ?. I wonder if the TC was locked up? I have a DTT VB/TC and it usually requires letting off the accelarator at some point to achieve lockup.

That is without any aftermarket stuff. Cummins also installed a Fleetgaurd paper filter in place of my K&N, left mine in a box on the floor. I am going to call later and ask why. Just curious.

Yesterday we left at 8 am and headed East. First fillup mileage was a tad better than before, I keep accurate mileage numbers for our business so I always know what I get for fuel mileage.

I got almost 11 with the trailer (12. 5K lbs. ) and A/C on.

I usually average 9. 5 mpg to 10 mpg. I'll see if this number improves as time goes on.

All in all I am very happy with Cummins and the fine job they did in Green Bay. They took good care on my ride and did what looks to be an excellent job. My hats off to them and for taking care of all of the little things.

Randy the SM did tell me that the engine looked great inside. No excessive wear and really clean. I run regular motor oil, vs synthetic. No reason for the crack in the block was mentioned.

My sincerest thanks to everyone here for all of your help and recomendations as well as just for being here.

This is the greateat group of folks anywhere.

sincerely,

David C. Miller

I am very happy to hear that your truck is fixed and

running well. I used the GB Cummins dealership

about two years ago while on a trip during the

winter and they treated me VERY GOOD also!

Thanks for your update and good luck with your

truck!

Glad to hear your baby is back!! Been following your problem since it began, glad it is over.

If you find out why cummins removed your K&N post it here, I really dont like K&N and am curious why they dont either.

Thanks

I've been followingyour ordeal ... Glad your ride is fixed.

About the K&N--there has been some discontent over how well it really filters. Pulled mine today (about 3K miles on it), and looked it over in the sunlight. Lots and lots of pin sized gaps    in the media. Not to comfortable about that situation :(.

Sooo maybe I'll try the Napa #2790 or the Feetguard filter after a few more reports  .

well, on the bright side, my buddy works down at the chebby dealership, and they got in 3 new duracraps. and all 3 had low compression on 3 cylinders!! (I dont think it was a tribute to dale earnhardt either)... . If I hear too many more cracked cummins, I'm gonna ditch mine for a D-50 at 99,000.
