102" wide 5er, factory tow mirrors...

I have the factory tow's and they worked great with my old 5er, which was 96" wide. We are having a Thor Jazz 2870UK built, will be done in a couple of weeks. Of course, now that I put a deposit down, it dawns on me that the Jazz is 102" wide, six inches wider than my old trailer and I wonder if the factory mirrors will be wide enough.



For someone who has a 102" trailer and factory mirrors, are they wide enough for a decent field of vision?

My fold out tow mirrors just clear the sides enough to see. But I have learned to always use a spotter in tight situations.

Thanks. Can you see well enough on the freeway for safe lane changing and backing up or does it get a bit hairy at times?

Safety issues are all good to the sides, but there is no seeing BEHIND, or in adjacent lanes BEHIND and BACK more than a few car lengths without 'fishtailing' a little.

I have towed several 102" wide trailers with my 03 and could see straight down each side with no problems. I think you will be fine with your mirrors. You can probably expect less fuel mileage while towing though since you will be pushing more air.

It's not too bad, mine is 102" wide. You definatly can't see directly behind you. But I have never felt unsafe with it.

If you have an awning,you are actually wider that 102". At least that's what AZDOT tells me when I cross their scale and make me buy an overwidth permit for the RV I,m transporting. You can see down the sides okay. When you get into those 8' wide construction lanes is when it gets hairy. You want to make sure and leave your self room to maneuver and stop. I have pulled them up to 45' long. I don't worry about whats behind me unless I am backing. When they have those big Onan generators in the front they are heavy on the hitch. You want to use the teflon ring or "U" on your 5th wheel. I have never pulled one that was loaded so I don't know how they feel with a vehicle and other stuff in the back. Thor seems to be a good unit. I have pulled some Escalades that had marble counter tops. HEAVY. Is yours a toyhauler or just a camper? Unless you have the automatic awnings ALWAYS secure the awning arms with cable ties before you travel with it. Cable ties are cheap!

I rarely put my mirrors out when I tow my 96" wide 5th wheel. I don't think you'll have a problem.

The only problem I have with mine is remembering to fold them out before hitting the road,other than that they are fine. If you have a t/gator they may not be visible with out a flick of the wheel.

I have a 102" Keystone Raptor 3814SS and my Tow mirrors work great, you cannot see directly behind you but you can straight down both sides with no trouble. I think the Dodge Tow mirrors great, simple, adjustable and functional. Heck, I have forgotten to put them up and still did fine until I stopped and flipped them up. Scotty
