yes i have a friend that has a '99 CTD with a automatic transmission. he got some codes of 1287 and 380. what do these code mean and do they affect the trany? if so what could they or will they do? any help would be nice. if you need more info please let me know and i will get more info.

P0380 (M) Intake Air Heater Relay #1 Control

Circuit

Problem detected in #1 air heater solenoid/relay circuit

(not heater element)

P1287 Fuel Injection Pump Controller

Supply Voltage Low

ECM or fuel injection pump module internal fault condition

detected. Engine power will be derated

These came off of the 24v code list.

yes, but power will be low, due to low voltage to injection pump controller. This has never happened to me but I would guess that it is bad. I would take it to cummins and have them scan it and fix the problem.

Grasshopper, just a word of advice:

Give your threads meaningful titles. Just putting a bunch of question marks in there doesn't give anyone a clue what you are talking about. It's more likely to be ignored.

Be brief and SPECIFIC in your thread titles, and people will be more likely to respond with something helpful.

Hohn so you read my post and told me how to post. do you not have any good advice on answering my ? i posted?

that's cool the guys that had posted back gave me good feed back. thanks to the guys that helped answer the question (?)

yes he had it checked out with a scanner and it came back with the codes 1287 & 380. it just stopped running the trany locked up. when he checked the codes thats what came up. i was thinking one of them was a TPS sensor code but i was wrong. i was just trying to fine out what could of made the trany go out so fast. it was rebuild less then a year ago and my bud had them turn up the shift point to were it would shift at 3500 to 4000. i bet by doing this it hurt the trany?

do the 24v have TPS sensors?

Grass Hopper... Hohn is trying to give you very helpful advise for getting informative answers to all of your future question. It did not specifically apply to this question... but for all of those you will be asking later. Thread titles are the only clue as to the content of the thread w/o actually opening it. Thus those who may not have alot of time to surf all threads... or those who specifically single out threads for those with transmission problems or codes can apply their knowledge.

Plus if anyone ever searches using "codes" or "transmission" in the scope of search... it helps for those words to be in thread titles and not just in the content of the thread.

It was good will advice to help you. Many like Hohn have lots of experience and knowledge and you'll appreciate that later.

PS: Codes are given in the 24V Engine and Transmission FAQ thread at the top of the forum... ie: the first thread always.

i am not sure if it shifted at 3500/4000 thats what my friend told me. i know i never take my 5spd passed 2500 rpms. do to the fact it sounds like it's going to blow up.
