1080 HP - Cummins on biodiesel

This boat, named Earthrace, is going to compete in a race around the world and is powered 100% on Bio-Diesel. Twin 540 HP 8. 3 Liter Cummins power this beauty. They are less then 580hp if they are stock configuration running on BIO do to the simple fast that bio makes less BTU's then #2.

Your right they are only 540 :-laf just passing the info cummins did the install knowing it was running on bio Randy

A guy I work with who retired from the Navy as a Chief Engineer spoke real highly of Cummins' marine diesels. I asked him about what all engines he had worked with. He mainly worked on Fairbanks-Morse and EMD (A fine engine if I may say so myself). He said that Cat's were good but couldn't take heat as well as the Cummins. He said Cummins was much easier to work on compared to Cat and prefered by mechanics he worked around. I dunno, but I thought his comments were interesting.

This is an interesting read on biodiesel from a marine perspective and if you scroll to the power differences paragraph you will see that it depends on what the load and rpm is, they claim a 13% increase in power over petro diesel under certain circumstances and identical power under full load.
