Hello all

Finally got the #11, AFC spring kit, and adjustable elbow in today. Plate is in stock location, used medium spring.

About what do I want for starting point PSI with the 11? Short test drive hit around 28, with little smoke. Didnt really seem like much more power either. Going to align the plate with pump lever next, see it that helps.

Not that impressed really.

Eric:

I installed the AFC spring and #10 . The power increase was very noticable. For boost I get , on the 35 lb gauge, to the stop. Piers said I probably am at 38 . I peg the gauge at 2100 RPM. I also installed the 3K governor springs and that seemed to do more than anything else.

Good hunting.

I just put the #6 in last week and the afc light spring

yesterday. I didn't think it made much difference either

until I drove on the highway. Once it locks up in overdrive

it pulls nice. Which is the only complaint I had with the stock

truck was poor highway power. I love it now just can't find

empty roads to let the animal out!

ZEEEW,

Did you slide your AFC housing all the way forward when you were buttoning things up? Failure to do so will leave some HP on the table:(

I have the AFC forward, star wheel forward, medium spring, rear afc screw barely touching diaphragm, and havent touched elbow.

If I am understanding this correctly, the rear screw gives the fueling a "starting point", the spring/star wheel determines how much boost needs to be built to add more fuel, elbow determines how much signal the afc gets, and position of afc housing determines when all the above starts?

So to get some boost sooner, start with that rear screw, turn in a few turns to let more fuel come in at start, this will build some boost sooner, and of course add some smoke?

Seems you can feel the top end of the engine is quicker, but only the top end, 40-80 times very close to stock.

Thanks to any help, I am going to post an AFC question as well.

I'm getting 39 pounds with the 370 injectors alone. I had to adjust the arm on the wastegate to get this much.

The #11 came in the mail the other day from Piers. Cant wait to put it in. I'll probibally have to do the cluch first though. :(

Eric;

Did you check the governor lever adjustment?

Also, make sure the AFC foot doesn't contact the plate.

If you're only pushing 28 lbs of boost with little smoke something is still holding back your fueling. Have you checked your throttle linkage to make sure it will give you full fueling?

I agree with Preston's comment on the governor springs. I drove a 96 5 speed with a #11 AND governor springs. That truck really flies. 35# boost gauge pegged and EGTs into the danger zone.

I have the adjustable elbow but have not made any adjustmaents to it. 28 psi tops with around 1200 egt on hill, empty. I need to adjust elbow, to around 32psi or so? Some smoke, about as much as stock with star wheel forward, a bit darker.

The elbow that comes with TST kit determines how much boost signal gets to the wastegate actuator. It limits pressure to the waste gate to prevent the extra boost allowed by the increased fuel from opening the wastegate thus lowering boost. This is one of the ways the kit increases power by raising fuel via the revised cam plate and allowing more boost to burn it.

It controls how fast fuel is added as the boost increases; the spring upgrade allows the fuel to come on sooner with boost (lighter spring than stock).

With the #11 centered, housing forward, and afc spring adjusted for minimal smoke, I could hit 32lbs at 8000ft above sea level, getting up to about 35lbs at sea level. Now with the plate slightly forward, I am hitting almost 40lbs.

28lbs without much smoke is definitely lacking... There should be no doubt in your mind about the increase in power. I would go back and recheck everything to make sure the housing is forward, you are using the right afc spring, etc etc...

Dont mess with the elbow until all else fails. TST sets them at a specific setting and if everything else is good it should perform well where it is. Try moving the plate forward a little, you may find your missing HP and boost. I get 40lbs boost with a drop off to 38 with the elbow at factory setting. Plugging the wastegate line for a quick check is a good idea.
