Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) $1100 Fuel Filter Housing!!!

Somebody tell me I'm dreaming. I've talked to two STEALerships and they have both quoted me $1100 for a replacement fuel filter housing. I just need the Head, but it's been replaced by a replacement kit. I'd expect to pay this for an injector pump, transmission, or a dependable used car, but for a fuel filter housing. Somebody has lost there ever lovin' mind!#@$%!#@$%!#@$%!

Your right, that's rediculous. I would get rid of the whole thing and install some kind of inline filter. I don't have anything specific in mind but surely something cheaper than $1100 is out there.

Have you tried Cummins directly or a wrecking yard at all?



Certainly hope you have better luck with it.

Wow! What's the part number on that thing? The 2000-2002 version can be had from some Mopar counters for less than ninety dollars.

Found the p/n to be 5011618AA if anyone has a line on one. Check the Pomoco online and they had it listed but not sure if they can actually get it.

I found the same thing, but when I called to check availability there were none and it referenced the same $1100 replacement kit, which I assume is just the parts from the 2000-2002's.

The filter head and housing from the old style is replaced by the new one with a drop in filter cartridge. You can either put a new cartridge filter setup on (you just lose the fuel heater, no big deal in most climates), or if you want the factory setup with a drop in cartridge find a take-off from someone and get all the lines, basically put your own kit together for the conversion. I've got it all in my garage to put on my truck, I've just been lazy since RTV took care of my fuel leak from the heater wires.

You can have the one from my 99 complete with mounting bracket for 1/2 the price the _ _ ealer was asking , , kiding. ridiculous!!!! You could get a whole new Glacier Set up for less than 1/2 of that

You could also just grind or mill the port bung off so the hole is flush with the head and retap it for FREE. I did it to mine and it was simple.

Another thought The 94-96 use the Fleetguard FS1253 spin on can style fuel filter. The 97-99, both 12v and 24v, use the FS19598 cartridge. If you buy a 94-96 head and stud it will bolt directly in place of the 97-99 style. Shadrach

I have the cummins number for a 98 12v but it dosen't have the fuel heater in it. I would try a cummins dealer stuff is usually still available through cummins even when the dealer cant get it any more. The number for the 12v is 3931582 if you can live without the heater.
