I just turned 1100 on the od mpg towing the 35ft fift to dealer 60 miles away 11.2 cumming home was 20.5 towing at around 65 and 70 solo with 68ref and no ho. Can we trust the computer mpg ???

The EVIC on my 18 averages 8% error, but it’s been as high as 20% off and it’s also been dead on a few tanks. No rhyme or reason. I always assume 10% error for quick math.

I'd think it's a touch optimistic given a new rig but I also don't know your driving habits.

This was one trip I took when I picked up a new outdoor wood burner two years ago. I fuel up at home and the picture was taken when I returned home sitting in the driveway. The low fuel light dinged within a few (10-20?) miles of my driveway. I had worked 10 hours prior to leaving and was wore out by then and didn't pay close enough attention. I just knew I was getting home at that point :)

Almost all of the miles consisted of freeway/highway driving at no more than 70mph. Sometimes less. And basically an empty truck - around 600 lbs with a little wind resistance being stuck over the cab.

All in all I think it's quite respectable for a 3500 SRW 4x4 pickup.

I’ve found that as the injectors get old (worn) the dash shows better an better MPG’s . More fuel through the nozzle shorter fuel pulses are needed to get the same job done. Fools the computer into thinking your using less fuel. Install a set of Dynomite Diesel stage one injectors and you’ll see the same thing.

Mine has always been between 1.5 to .5 MPG higher than hand calculated. I wish there was an easy way to adjust it's accuracy.

I was just wondering if the newer computers were better it is harder to compute mpg with the new 50 gal tank each time i fill up how much is still left in the tank.

My 15 and my 19 are off to the same degree as AH64ID described, and are pretty consistently in that range of error, naturally always reading higher than actual mpg. My 05 was wildly inaccurate, and the harder it was working/pulling the more divorced from reality it got. I recall it being 6-8 mpg off, on the high side, frequently when pulling.

I would say that AH64ID in correct in saying it is off by a percentage factor. At 10 MPG(towing) 8% is .8 MPG, and at 20 MPG(empty) 8% is 1.6 MPG. That is consistent with what I see most of the time.
