More dieselgate knife throwing

being new to diesels, what is the point of the large dia stacks up thru the bed and stopping below the cab roof line on the diesel powered trucks other than the guy driving it thinks it looks cool I guess
 
1. It ruins your truck bed.
2. It makes a lot of noise.
3. It does the rest of us a favor by advertising the IQ of the driver.

Maybe I'm just getting old...
 
I saw a DMax the other day with a single coming up through the bed, 6-8" below the cab. The entire back of the cab and back window was so sooted there's no way he could see through it. These are the asshats that give diesel a bad rap.

Thanks to all that responded, I don't know how to respond with multiple quotes. But You all have confirmed that I'm not to old of a fart and can stop thinking I am (A) losing my mind for missing something. or (B) see (A);) My thoughts were along the same lines
