filling up at the pumps and a beat up looking 24 valve pulled up next to me ... asked him how many miles ... he smiled and said 218k ... most of it hauling mules ... asked what oil and he said "3 gallons of wal-mart rotella" ( and fram filters ... )

i said you mean 11 quarts?

nope been 3 gallons a change from day one ...

talked to my freinds at the local dodge shop and they said "if it

says 11 we use 11"

any thoughts ... i'd like to just use the extra quart ... don't like the thought of the crank spinning through oil though

thanks

11 quarts in the engine, 1 in the filter. 3 gallons at every change put me right at the full line.

11 qts. total in my 01 reads full on the stick. I belive that's what the owners manual says, as well, but haven't checked that for a long while. Over the past three years on the TDR I've seen many threads discussing this, and the consensus seems to be that 12 qts. is not harmful. For me it's not that much extra work to pour out one quart from the Delo gallon jug into a "reserve" jug that I eventually pour into the engine.

I always used 3 gallons "minus a cup or so" on my '99... and just toss out the extra little bit I didn't use. This got me to the full line, although I did use the 3 full gallons once and it was a tick over full... didn't seem to have a problem, but I didn't like always questioning myself as to whether the oil could be foaming up when i'm on a grade or some other situation that could cause the oil level to come up enough for the crank to splash in it... so I just use the almost 3 gallons method... YMMV

13. 5-ish here. :p I never put in a set amount... ... I just add 13 quarts and then watch the dipstick while adding the rest until it reads full.

Do you have an oversized oil pan? 13. 5 quarts would have been well over full on my '99...

I recall reading something about wrong dip stick in

the 24v trucks, wrong part # would read to much.

I go with 11 QTS. Too much is as bad as too little.

I was wonder'in when someone would call me on that. The reason is I have a Amsoil Dual Remote Bypass and am using the BE- 110 Filter which is the largest filter Amsoil makes for a bypass filter. All in all it adds quite a bit of capacity. :)
